Interesting that talking to Shoya Yuzuru got an idea why Shoka also doesn’t get angry.

12 - Maria Shoya’s cute little niece finds Yuzuru in the playground passed out. Yuzuru admits he wrote the article and Shoya is relieved he felt he brought it on himself and at least he knows why he wrote the article. Shoya is worried about him (her) and carries him home. They feed him. Shoka’s mother comes looking for Shoka! They go out to look for her...

11 - we learn the boy is Yuzuru, Shoka’s little sister who used to get bullied too because of her sister, but instead of taking it in stride Yuzuru fought back and became boyish like their mother wanted. She took the photos and did the article as Shoka and I realized. She makes an angry face at her sister... pretty sweet sibling!

10 - his mom confronts him having realized he must have been going to kill himself. It’s pretty cute and wonderful, she burns the 17;000 he saved lol. The boy attacks Shoya and says Shoka is his girlfriend. Haha Shoya believes him even though he’s a lot younger. Then he’s suspended from school! Someone pasted a pic of him jumping in after Shoka pretending to be him bragging?!

9 - haha the same kid is there but this time Shoya’s new friend comes and makes enough ruckus that Shoka hears. They talk and he admits he didn’t know if he was worthy to be her friend. Nagatsuka and “the boy” eavesdrop using a camera, haha... turns out Shoka is the boy’s sister.

Shoya truly doesn’t know what a friend is! He didn’t even know he was standing up to a bully for that fat kid. He didn’t even see that that guy was bullying the fat kid. Now Shoka has friends he won’t find it so easy to befriend her, lol.

8 - Shoya wants to go see Shoka again but doesn’t know what to say... he sees a fat outcast fighting for his bike and offers the bully his... only to find the bike was stolen. He walks home and gets a flyer about bread and uses a baguette as a reason to go see Shoka only a girl from her class won’t let him in. At home the fat kid has his bike, says he found it in a rice paddy.

The thing is Shoya was going to jump off a skyscraper today. Shoka’s acceptance saved him from that. He went home to his sweet mom and got to see her happy face at the money he gave her. The symbol of the torn calendar wow... impressive and makes me want to cry. She can teach him a ton about resilience...

7 - he feeds the carp with her on the bridge and tells him she likes being needed. Her mom comes and recognizes him immediately. Shoka dives for the book when her mother throws it and he jumps in after her. I totally get her mom’s reaction. This was a tough time in all their lives and she can’t imagine her daughter wants to risk the new place they’re at trying again with this loser.

I’m so super impressed! No apology would cut it... but this effort... learning sign language to understand her and be able to communicate... that’s the start of something! The class thinks they’re having a love confession, hahaha.

6 - Uhhhh wow!! He trips and she the sweet person she is goes back... he remembers he can sign now and gives her the notebook he found. It’s really unexpected. She though he just wanted to clear his conscious but no. He feels he’s a horrible person. He realized back then she was asking to be his friend, not creepily grabbing his hand, and he repeats that now.

5 - so he is rejected and just works to pay his mom back and looks for Shoka... he finally finds her but she runs from him! Interesting that we start from this beginning and come back around to it. We needed to know what happened when they were in middle school. Because this isn’t about hidden secrets coming out, but about redemption.

He tries to prove who steals his shoes and gets into a fight with her because she never speaks up. It’s the last straw and she transfers, he learns of the desk after.

4 - Shoka tries to reach out to Shoya during this time of bullying... he doesn’t even realize the kids have left her alone because he’s a target they don’t get in trouble for bullying. She silently cleans his desk every owning when she brings in the class flowers.

3 - the class turns on Shoya blaming him for everything. He did do the most outrageous of the bullying... the class all supported him though. And once they successfully pass the blame he becomes their target. Even the teacher turns a blind eye to how he’s treated accused of lying that others did it to him. Shoya doesn’t understand and blames Shoka.

I don’t understand though why he thought it was okay to destroy thousands of dollars in hearing aid equipment. 8 times he and or the class broke them! They are all old enough to know these gadgets cost a pretty penny. And wouldn’t the teacher have made an announcement about it after the second set were “lost?”

2 - this is where the other kids and the teacher start to change toward Shoka and Shoya takes it to mean it’s okay to put her through her paces... to make her see how inconvenient she is to the class. Everyone else is passive aggressive and it’s Shoya who steps up the bullying. She reaches out to him... we don’t get her POV so we don’t know why.

Then we have their mom’s... Shoya’s mom is really understanding and thinks of her son as a good person. Shoka’s mom is really hard on her and wants her to become tough like a boy to withstand the bullying. They are such an extreme to one another...but so true to how things go.

The intriguing thing about this manga is how realistic it is. By the time Shoka leaves the school Shoya still doesn’t understand she was doing the best she could. It wasn’t until after the rest of his years in middle school being bullied the entire time that he could relate to Shoka.

1 + side story - we meet Shoya who has two friends who are roped by him into doing things he wants. They jump from bridges, skip cram school and stand by while he hit a kid who stole his shoes. He makes them uncomfortable but they don’t say anything. A transfer student comes to their class and everyone is welcoming. She’s deaf and uses a tablet of paper to communicate. Shoya thinks Shoka is a weirdo.

Uhhhh wow? This suddenly got funnier... Owen’s life got rougher... he even gets his leg hacked off because he tries to escape and gets a musket ball for his troubles from the man he wanted to save him. Mabbet made sure to get him patched up, but off to work he goes week after next!

Sent off with her family to a resort to protect them.

Oh my gosh! This chapter was so damn hilarious! His plan was so good... then he fell in, hahahahahahahahahahaha. And the bottle with the marooned note! Hahaha. Maybe this is getting better?!

Her reading room is opening but everyone comes to visit Thorn who wants to talk to his fiancée. We learn the Knight has been arrested, illegal dogs confiscated and the newspaper man abducted. Then Faurok visits wanting Ophelia to read his book... he seems to realize he scared her and withdraws her vice storyteller, he will find her a new job.

She saved Fox! But nearly gets herself dead with that story besides the aKnight after her!

Uhhh yeah I can see that only 1 person is going to survive... I honestly hate this girl so much... then at the end it’s all about love?! Hahahahaha still it’s epic, it’s morally grey... maybe morally black even, it’s full and f gods but no religion. Perfect for modern society!!

Part 3!!! Hmmm I hate how each new part feels like the beginning of a new book with more boring setup ... this section while introducing the Cike had many m meets like this boring filler that should have been shaved down. BUT cool stuff did go down. The cheimi was neat. Nehza returning and becoming a friend. The lieutenant rescue and casting of coins. Revealing the federations real plan.

FINALLY! The book has started! The first meal is excellent and I finally feel it’s worth reading. I actually like Mabbot, she’s quite fair considering how life has treated her. He did excellent with his first meal... I’d actually want to take over cooking so I know the food wasn’t full of nasties...

7 - the new woman wants to betray Isabella to take her mom position. She is trying to have these kids ready for a special meal for a head demon. Emma does find the tracker on the baby... in the ear, so tiny you can only find it on a 1 year old. How will they escape with everyone before the big day?!

6 - our three realize their mom’s agenda is not to simply find the kids that know otherwise she’s just ship them out early... but if they don’t know her motives they can’t get ahead of her... the kids conclusions are confirmed when we get her POV when she talks to Krone who she called their as a guard. She was supposed to report it but she says this will help the farm.
