We learn Ratri betrayed his human comrades to make the promise. They became the first food. And his family was made to be the gatekeeper between the two worlds to keep both sides happy. Don, Gilda and Ayshe make it to Sonju and Mujika and are betrayed by Hayato... but will it really matter in the end!?

They find a black hole and go thru. Ray is too close minded and goes back to his family. Only Emma gets thru to I- he agrees to a new promise but wants a reward! They we skip o what happened at the previous promise when they got to this point.

Don and Gilda are confronted by Ayshe. We learn the demon they killed was her adopted dad. He wasn’t a threat to her but raised her. She went with them so she could bide her time and kill them all. We also learn unknown the the three that Hayato is meeting with the real assassins meant to kill their demon friends.

Ray and Emma figure out the maze and the puzzle of the seven walls. It’s really neat how they work together in partnership! It’s trippy what they figure out and what they go through. They really are the smart kids created by demons.

The twists are rolling in already. We meet Ayshe, a girl raised by a demon with some dogs. Norman saved her and she only knows demon! She’s the escort for Don and Gilda tasked by him to find their demon friends. They think it’s a trap and are going with Hayato to protect them. We see Ray stumbling around with a baby who looks like Emma... is this the future?

So we meet this new drama club member who admits he just wants to be popular and all he has going for himself is his good looks. Haha he’s just as inciting as Louis. Someone large attacks Legoshi at school and makes an effort to keep L from realizing who. His friend Ralph unites him after L chases off his attacker. L goes to Mr Panda to teach him to find his inner beast.

Louis is wasting away trying to fit in with the cat gang. But he is uniting the black market under him. The head cat realizes and buys him a salad. Hahaha Juno visiting interrupts his appeal to the Deer.

The group of school presidents decides the next Beastar of Appleton will be the one who solves the murder. Legoshi realizes someone has been watching him. He meets Six eyes, the snake security guard who keeps out of sight. He admires Legoshi. Legoshi decides to find the murderer.

Wow... we see a mini version of Balthus’ history. And we see that the alternate personality also enters Natalia with the steam. Bart sees she’s about to blow and jumps into the ring!?

Natalia decides to go back in with a plan to absorb steam from Balthus. It’s the final round and if she can do this she could win. But she has to remain strong through his memories and overpower his will.

Natalia and Balthus continue the fight, he wanting her to kill him and her wanting to get him to Bill to fix. When it looks like she’s going to win another personality takes over Balthus and he kills a member of him own team. Levius has enough and forces out of his room only to be blocked...

Natalia is fighting Bathus. It’s her time to shine and do something for Levius. She’s explained to Bart and he fully supports her. Through Bill we learn Bathus is still in the experimental stage and could die from the special tech inside him. Now he’s told Natalia to fight harder and kill him.

This was a really powerful volume. We finally understand. And it’s tragic as hell.

64 - Orca goes back and kills every single one of them. It’s this act that inspired this current plan to reshape the world. It’s pretty sick and you can’t blame Orca for being broken. It ends with Chakuro grabbing the blade Irca tries to kill himself with after Lykos tells him she was already happy.

63 - Orca’s life on Kitrino. A peaceful place where he was captured and escaped from so he could bring back his sister to life. His commander insists he slaughter everyone on the island and make it a military base. When he refuses he’s taken to the nous.

62 - we see how Orca became how he is, learning his history from a child to the man he became.

61 - Shuan’s magic is out of control but his purpose, to kill Orca is not. Itia Orca’s girl gets in the way and is hurt. Orca starts to sob and another of his retainers come in. Lykos is surprised. He says Orca just started developing another personality but he always comes back and cries.

10 - pretty rollicking end! Mika’s dad has to kill his beloved. And Mila runs into a monster that Helda sacrifices to take care of... until a mysterious person appears! Who’s Driller?

9 - we get Mother’s back history with her sister... then learn who betrayed her and the coven. It was a fascinating way to show us how the world came to be.

8 - we get a huge dose of mother here. She lays a plan to use vamp Effie and her father’s blood to find the hound. But another group las a trap for her... which fails. She just won’t die.

7 - we get Telsa and Helda’s back history as Hell rescues her lover.

6 - welp the dad is in for it, but it’s a blessing in disguise as he finds someone he’s lost. Our girl is tough but she bonds with the captain over lost dads. But a monster is already on their trail... and this father and daughter come to the attention of Mother.

Actually the notes weren’t about folklore at all! They were translator notes that will clarify and hint some of the story points. I suggest reading them then going back and reading the stories. Some make a lot more sense.

The last story with the monkeys was my least favorite. I wasn’t blown away by the art and the story didn’t work for me. A disappointing way to end the volume. Though I see translator notes and folklore explanations.

An odd new year’s story with old grannies and teeth and buns. The character art is divine and the backgrounds are on light paper.

An untitled short with some incredible atmospheric art.

This is the cover story about a boy who fell in love with cooking his grandfather’s odd dish Happy Surprise. It’s a cooky story but the art showcases it well. Done on a dark paper the art feels like folklore come to life. There’s lots of snot but I didn’t find it as off putting as I thought I would.

This next story was quite inexplicable to me. I just didn’t get it. But the art is exquisite as it shows a person going through the extremes of emotion. There is a roughness though that contrasts the character art that clues us in to the hard life the character has lived.

Loved the unexpectedness of the end of the first story. It starts out quite traditional like the art (which is gorgeous) but has a twist that makes it fresh.

So cute! I liked the balance between the fat life, abuse and k-pop competition.
