The Missing Ingredient by Rebecca Roanhorse - 4 stars
I loved this creepy story! The only problem was the end was a little murky. Blessedly I went back and read it again and finally understood.

Gimme Some Sugar by Jay Coles - 4 stars
This was anticlimactic and a little repetitive but Leo’s plight tugs at your heartstrings. The empowerment in the face of anxiety is the real champion.

The Slender One by Caroline Tung Richmond - 5 stars
GAHHH I love Charlie and the social identity predicament he was in. I was so glad he gave Andie and his Waipo a chance. What a creepy ghost!

Wow this is funny and cute and sooooo good! I love the translation misunderstandings

Moments to Remember by Adi Alsaid - 4 Stars
The end was a little wandering hence the rating. But I really enjoyed the mental health journey and how food and friendship helped him.

Sugar and Spite by Rin Chupeco - 5 stars
Nothing really happens in this story. It’s a rundown of the most enchanting character you’ll ever meet! A grandma who you’d want for your very own. And a heritage to crow over.

35 - uhhhh whoa!! Takaya reveals the lie he told the day Kyutaro’s parents died. He killed Toko and Yataro disappeared with.... Fumi! He charged Takaya to keep the secret and come to the Seichi when summoned to confront him for the final time. WOW WOW WOW!

34 - they made into into his father’s corpse gate only to find his mother!! Fumi is told by the white Queen her future is filled with sadness. It’s scary but she proceeds anyway.

33 - Komari brings out K’s mother as an illusion for T! Kyutaro comes and they defeat his dad.

32 - Komari the spirit that attacked Kyutaro is very similar to each other the cat says. He was dedicated but blamed himself too much. That was why he reflected all the fears in K’s own heart. Fumi insists on healing K. And their 2 friends fight Komari. The lizard reveals Komari is Yataro. K’s father!

31 - a cat who claims to be her very very good ally shows up saying he’s in trouble. A doppelgänger has severely weakened him. She realizes right away who is who. The ghost is driven off. They rest under some trees to let him sleep. She admits to the cat she loves him! The cat talks about sex. Haha

The special chapter was cute! These are all the moves mangaka and kdrama writers include in their romances!

51 - Hana attends Okamon’s soccer game. She sees he’s not focused on the game. We get his POV and see he wants to do something about liking Hana. And after the game he tells her! You go dude! Finally!

50 - Okamon is worried about Hana’s situation with Takane and her words do nothing to relieve him to he goes off half cocked with logical arguments with strong points. Hana is depressed by it and eventually talks it out explaining how serious she is about getting to know T. You. An tell he likes her but respects her feelings

49 - They settle in! T gets her a nightgown since he hates the swears. Makes rules for living together, and she learns his daily routine. He learns her neighborhood and eats her mom’s breakfast.

48 - Takane and Hana talk out living together. They go back and forth. I do love it all started with him seeing Hana in a towel and being flustered. And Hana’s sister trying to convince him in a towel and he was bored. They make a deal to see how strong her family is and see if they can deal with the backlash!

47 - Hana goes and sees Takane’s grandfather. He’s been expecting her. He needs Takane to learn to rely and trust others if he’s going to take over some day. He’s surprised how long Takane has pursued her and wants her to use the house to get closer if she wants to pursue a relationship with him. She realizes it’s a good idea if he’ll agree too.

Cute! Though something is obviously up with her best friend and boyfriend...

46 - We learn grandpa set this up so Talavera would get closer to his arranged marriage meeting girl! Takane takes over the upstairs and leaves them the down stairs after her father cutely begs him to stay (he really wants the house!) later Hana is confused because he he sends conflicting messages

122 - Ninja and Akko discuss the superbun incident... Realizing it must be a 1-2 year because she is avoiding the 3rd years who are concentrating on exams. We know Okegawa’s RHM Kawauchi is involved?! The game of tag is creepy!! And a parachute?!

121 - The sightings of superbun increase! Mafuyu chases her down but they look eerily similar and it’s so creepy the girl escaped. Saeki teases her with the mask which freaks her out immensely.

120 - Superbun masks are found by Saeki from last year... someone must have stolen one...Miyabi has disappeared from school... Ayabe has a run in with the fake superbun! She knows about his broom!! Who is Kawauchi who is enjoying himself?!

119 - Hayasaka is still wondering about what he saw in Mafuyu closet... he goes to ask her and gets her all excited haha. Then someone says they saw a rabbit! That makes him think he was crazy to ask... they go off and learn a masked person was responsible for pushing Hanabusa down the stairs !!

118 - Kangawa is so adorable!! He really likes Mafuyu and she’s totally clueless... he wins saving Sakurada! Lol I just love how fun her home visits are... The underwear thing was hilarious

117 - hahaha oh wow so funny! I love the trouble Mafuyu gets into with her old gang, always so many misunderstandings! This time a whole cross dressing date is going on!

The writing is a little more adult in tone than I expected. I love that this is a demon filled world of castes. It feels Asian in a subtle but potent way...and that’s just chapter 1! So happy to start this buddy read with Christine!

The Grand Ishq Adventure by Sandhya Menon - 5 stars
I knew from the start how this would end but I just loved her thoughtful experiment and advice. Love was just a single part of who she was as a larger individual. Loved it!

Kings and Queens by Elsie Chapman - 5 stars
This was quite good... totally unexpected and fun twist to Chinese culture. I did guess who made the call but I loved it anyway.
