21 - Tamao actually teaches Ran to access her magic and change it from something heavy to cotton candy. She makes herself fly then all the fish in the pond. Nio finds her magic sloppy and shallow. It helps her overcome her defeat. Haha

20 - Nio is Tamao’s previous student and quite gifted. She comes to Ran’s school to battle her. Haha we learn Ran has waaaaaayyyyy more power than a normal sorceress so easily eclipses Nio. Nio was jealous Tamao came to teach Ran. Haha it was so funny to see Tamao and Ran’s mom having tea while the 2 “battled” it out.

19 - haha so Ran goes to Hibi and starts beating him on the head with a pan desperately trying to make him forget... once he realizes this is about her secret he tells her she just had to ask! I loved that we see that side of her that doesn’t want to loose his friendship. Haha he calls her a first grade moron! And she’s so relived!

Then he asks her what he can do that she’d consider him? It’s pretty sad how needy Chiaki is... and Riku is pretty mean about being his friend. Not that I blame him because he doesn’t want to be a friend to his rival. The real thing is Ten needs to back off. You can be friends for the sake of the house. Personally I’d like to see more house interactions with romance only being a portion of the story.

Riku school is having its sports festival and the house mom, Chiaki and Ten went to go watch. They hide at one point and Riku sees them when they stand up. The 2 talk and Chiaki admits he’s jealous of Riku. Of what kind of guy he is... he asks her if she likes Riku. She says yes, how did you know... and he kisses her!

Riku and Chiaki go on a bromance date after Riku breaks a cup and Chiaki guilts him into going with him to find another cup. Riku is pretty nice about it. Haha Chiaki hasn’t had a friend before so it was a neat day for him.

Chiaki and Ten go on a field trip to the zoo! Chiaki tells Ten the girl he likes likes someone else but he doesn’t want to give up. Then he tells her a quote. She thinks it’s so cute, haha. At the zoo he asks Ten to help pick out a gift for the girl he likes... and she picks a bunny. She gets Riku a snake like Chiaki did. He throws away C’s and keeps Ten’s lol.

Ten is acting flustered coming back from summer vacation... she’s realized she likes Riku. Chiaki seems to realize that she is focused on him...

We get a bunch of character history pages. And the manga ends. It’s sad really. For what it was I enjoyed it but it peaked quickly and didn’t improve. I think the art kept improving and would read this mangaka again.

19 - with Rago out of his bubble they make short work of Amagi.

18 - the flying bugs attack but the Mononoke helps Jiro get through the gate. Amagi destroys Jiro’s gear so he uses Rago’s power. Amagi makes it clear this is a fight between humanity and Mononoke. That as soon as Jiro gives into the darkness he’ll eat his heart!

17 - Jiro comes back and while he learned to use Rago’s power its... limited. A gate appears off the port where their hideout is, suddenly the surviving Mononoke appears and gives them terms. Then bugs attack coming from the smaller gates. The girl Mononoke will get them across the water to the gate.

16 - we learn how Amagi came to see himself as the ultimate power... of course humans were willing to sacrifice a girl to save themselves. He ate all of his compatriots. Even the girl Mononoke waiting with Rago. Rago steps up to save the other or at least delay his eating. Oh and the brother with the demon sword walked away.

If the battle had been written better I would have been a lot more happier with at least understanding how it went down. But Kane especially was written poorly. Judd the knife dying was anticlimactic... it was so poorly written I had to go back and find where he died to confirm it happened. I get it... get us the last book, but first run it through an editor.

And a one shot derringer can take out a giant wolf’s paw? No. That’s not even talking about the harvester who suddenly has to use a gun because she’s sated. Even though before there was no limit. And where were the invincible elders and the elementals that are badass to the point the shifters are scared of them? This battle was so contrived to end like a frontier story and didn’t match the world building.

Then there is Kane... the outlaw is such a good shot he was able to kill a wolf in one blow... but a girl he was right next too he left alive... And sangunati who can shift to smoke and not be hurt by guns went around in a vulnerable form even though they knew this was going down...?! Right... 🤬

GAHHHH Jana is so absurd! She was shaking in her boots with Capt Burke but does ridiculous things to her BOSS! Things you wouldn’t do to a human boss let alone a Other one. Totally unrealistic. Over and over we got description of Blackstone’s railcar but didn’t meet all of these sudden outlaws that were in the area. *Rolls eyes*

Wow... pretty good! Jana gets on my nerves though. She’s so overwrought and acts like she’s stupid. Making dumb demands and not thinking before she tries to dominate an Other. It really gets on my last nerve. Nicknamed Wolverine or no learn to fight your battles when you actually have a point and aren’t just throwing your weight around.

Madam Scythe comes to town! Boy was this funny! Finally something that is delightful. I love that she wanted a canary and thought adding madam to her name made it less honest lol. A harvester who is a little more innocent than Tess seems like a fun idea.

Slow start. Not a fan of the Blackstone clan... Abigail seems like a real piece of work... I do LOVE cute Rachel the only female Wolfgard who survived that is close to mating age.

Wow... they are not in good shape... locked up, underfed, and Court dying. No sign of their friends...

Wow... I stopped just before the political crap hit the fan. I knew who the villain was since I met him. He felt like scum. I did like though that things didn’t go his way. They aren’t perfect but he’s going to have to shift gears. Poor Ialu! But he went to the right person.

Awwwwwwwww nooooooooooo Elin explains it all to the Yojeh but the woman dies right as she gets home... Elin isn’t going to be able to remain safe...

Wow... the battle of Leelan and Elin against the unnotched toda was magnificent and very dangerous!! I love Ialu so much... I kind of wish we had more time with him but actually what we’ve had was the exact right amount. But now Elin is in a perilous situation...

Oh wow this is so good... oh wow... oh wow... sorry trying to catch my breathe this is so good! If you are an animal lover of any sort you need this book! It’s more slice of life than Americans enjoy normally but if you understand that it reads almost like a memoir then that should adjust your expectations.

It’s sad to see the back of Joeun ... it’s good he went back to the city because of his health. I’m glad she told him she couldn’t go with him and her history. To go to school of his friend Esalu and help with the royal beasts is better! Poor little Leelan! Her knowledge of the TODA helps her here.

We meet Ialu a bodyguard to the Yojeh. The leadership of the land is split and we meet those leaders too. I really liked Ialu, he is different like Elin.

Ahhhh an old man finds Elian by a lake. He nurses her back to health with his bees. He quite falls in love with our smart and sober little girl giving her a home and wanting to nurture her great intellect. She witnesses the royal beast freeze toga and eat them. She never forgets her mother but mourns the fact it seems her mother could have escaped to live with Elin.

Lilith visits and Rhen calls out Harper. She is torturing Rhen and Harper is distraught. It made me roll my eyes because Rhen told her about all this. She saw the blood and guts upstairs... what’s suddenly the big surprise?! She attacks the sorceress and the woman slices her cheek for the impertinence. Hahaha you want something from her and attack her?!
