I was contemplating whether to read the introduction letter or just jump to chapter 1. I'm so glad I took the time to read that letter because it blew my mind! Hawthorne addresses the reader as the author/narrator, explains the customs house, his colleagues, the box of old documents he found, and his mindset as he pondered how to write the story of the Scarlet Letter. It was absolutely masterful writing! 5* already!
