listen I’m all here for a girl who declares piracy as her first love, but I feel like this book is trying to juggle too much at once. I’ve barely begun and there’s already fantasy!Italian and fantasy!Catholicism. I just want to read about the dragons, but instead all the characters are very concerned with who is and isn’t a virgin

tbh i have never read a book with characters that talk about slur reclamation and that’s pretty cool

tbqh i had forgotten what the book is like (compared to the movie) and i’m quite glad i’m revisiting it. it’s more real, i think, full of more tension than sweeping romance.

i love the earnestness of middle grade novels. it’s making me miss one of my friends who changed schools cause of strict religious parents :/ (not exactly the same situation as the book but like. similar ideas)
