I remember watching the movies and being disappointed that the games are barely in the sequel & over so quickly, but I think the book does a better job at making sure you know this book isn't about the games, but instead about the rebellion

I don’t hate Gale (YET, ik what’s coming) but he can’t assume that Katniss is “guaranteed to be with him” in the climate they’re in rn. That’s the difference between him and Peeta imo, because Peeta explicitly apologizes and makes sure Katniss knows they can be just friends, and he won’t ask any more of her than she’s willing to give. K that’s all I’m gonna say about the unnecessary love 🔺
