Alcieta is starting The Fantasy Fallacy: Exposing the Deeper Meaning Behind Sexual Thoughts
I found this read a lot less relevant for me, compared to Pulling back the shades, simply because it delved so much in the physical. I can't relate to the physical end of sexual fantasy, but I can to the emotional. Reading this just... reminded me how repulsive sex can be, and is, to many people who idolise its physicality.

Alasdair's mind reads like that of a contemporary high school boy, except less... of a guy. A sappy guy. And contemporary profanity in here, too. ugh.

Skimmed the rest. This one wasn't a winner--the romance was appearance-based and thus boring, and the storyline tended to be family drama and who was whose son/daughter. meh. not my thing.

... I like this. I like Emily. dangit. I also like how she's initially so fond of Colin then turns on him and... stays turned. good times. Philip is probably evil, and he's probably still dead, and of course Colin is good and wow I have no idea what is going to happen, which is refreshing

"Perhaps men should not be allowed to hunt; the love of the chase creeps too much into other realms of their lives."
Oh my goodness. I usually find "women's equality" heroines extremely tiresome, as feminism is shoved down my throat, but Emily is one independent protagonist that I really enjoyed.

ah, these 'romances.' They're so rooted in lust. They're an exercise in fantasising. Can true love be both out of such lust, no matter how they try to redeem initial physical, obsessive attraction? It's so amazingly unrealistic, and worthless. I hate that obsession with physical appearance. Why can't there be passionate love stories that aren't overwhelmingly physical? It's just gross.

It's really annoying how Avon keeps calling Leonie "infant." Stop, there's romance going on, that is infinitely creepy. Otherwise, why is this story so delightful

I will say this: the description is incredibly, depressingly lacking. Golden stone, grey stone, a room of blue. Nothing is ever specific! What kind of stone? What's the furniture made of? This author is a "the room was blue with a table and a bed" kinda author, which I'm not used to in historical fiction. BECAUSE IT FEELS OUT OF PLACE. Also, there's plenty of contemporary language here, too. meh.

Another Austen clone, heh heh. It's not bad, though. Although Marianne is so naive and unrealistic.

in American novels. Authors are encouraged to pen multicultural fiction nowadays, but if their characters starkly misrepresent a culture and bank on Westernized stereotypes, are they really putting forth 'multicultural' fiction? Anyway, that's a whole other discussion, and mildly unrelated, since Rei was raised in the States.) Rei's a fantastic character. The childhood friend is tropey, yes, but one of my favourite

I just read two novels in a row that feature Japanese best friend characters; that's becoming quite the cliche itself, isn't it? These are Americanized Japanese created by American authors, but still, points for trying. (I do adore the Japanese culture, and prefer an Asian best friend to a main character--it's painfully obvious, the quick Googling and pop culture emphases that make up these features characters

Wow. I am really enjoying this. It's unique for this genre; I went in expecting something flighty and rehashed, and although a lot of teen YA cliches reappear here, they're not cheesily handled and really only compliment the story--like the mean girl character trope and how our main character gets up close and personal with her... in an unexpected way.

And Rei.

Gimme Leo's giant gold dragon and fire powers anyday. Anyway, lots of action here, but I say the story was claustrophobic because way too many things were happening. Way too many new characters and little arcs in one book--yay, another villain I don't care about. These three are rarely out of danger and frankly it gets tedious. All in all, a cute middle grade read that would've been much better with one focused

These books are always fun, no doubt. This one, though, was a little claustrophobic. The alternating viewpoints and plethora of dreams and memories specific to each took its toll on me--I just wasn't interested enough in Jason and Piper. Leo, though, I loved. He really enriched the story where Piper and Jason insisted on cheese and cliche. How ridiculously bland Jason is as a hero.

hahahaaa wow. Nice. Rebecca was a rotten person. Max did the right thing, killing her, he is blameless! Somehow takes away from the disturbia element. I almost feel like the revelation came too fast and easily, which is crazy to say because I don't like too much drag-out, but here the drag-out was not really Rebecca-related.

Had potential, but I didn't really have the patience for it. I don't know if it was the writing style--probably. Nalia's musings span for pages on end and there's just too much to wade through. Unique magic system and world, but too convoluted in its execution.
