I am dragging my feet finishing this one. Ignatius is just so damn disgusting and obnoxious, how can one actually enjoy reading about his belches, green hat, and other completely irrelevant, & completely disgusting mannerisms!? I am so totally amazed that this book won the Pulitzer and has such a huge fan base. I can see that it is unique, but not necessarily pleasantly so!

There are clearly some very funny parts 2 this book, ie the extreme ridiculousness & nerve of Ignatius. But... I just can't get into it. I know so many people loved this book, & I am trying to like it! & I like it fine, sometimes, but it just WILL not hold my interest! I'm chug-chugging thru this book basically just to get to the end. I still harbor a secret hope that it will get better.. But I won't hold my breath!

Oh Marge, you do me a solid every time. Thank you for being so dependable. I picked up the Robber Bride because I was in the mood for a sure thing, and sure enough...I was not disappointed. Zenia captured my attention immediately, I like brilliant, beautiful yet dangerous women. I don't like reading from Charis' view, but I can tolerate it. Everything else is predictably pleasing.

Jenbebookish is on page 150 of 324 of A Treasury of Royal Scandals: The Shocking True Stories of History's Wickedest, Weirdest, Most Wanton Kings, Queens, Tsars, Popes, and Emperors
Each story is relatively short, with parts within that veer away from the main person who the story is supposed to be about, giving u little tidbits about not only whichever tsar/king the story is about but peoplesurrounding him/her as well. That is all fine and dandy, but it gives me the impression that there was not enough info about each individual to make an entire chapter. Still, its all midly interesting.

So far, I would say the book is really good. There are linguistic elements that are slightly challenging, but overall I am fascinated by the characters and I catch glimpses and hints of where the book is going, and I am waiting on edge for it. It's done that way purposely, Russell reveals aspects of her story in a random order, not chronological, and I get the feeling that the last 1/3 of the book will be amazing.

This book was amazing. Sure, it's long and time consuming & there are a few parts that were just... Overdone. But overall, it was amazing. Herbert created such an awesomely descript little world, it's easy to get lost in. I sure did!!

It has taken me forrrreevvvver to get to this point. I lagged in interest in the beginning, and thought that I was going to end up agreeing with the people who said it was a "tough read" until... voila, I became suddenly interested...(maybe it had something to do with me falling in love with the Duke Leto) and now it's totally amazing! I know I'm going to speed through the remaining half of the book!

So far it's been mildly interesting. At least interesting enough to keep me turning to the next page quick enough & keep me FROM putting the book down at long intervals out of boredom. Tho I'm not sensing any special talent or unique personal style coming from Eagen. Unless you count replacing "he goes, she goes, I go" with says, or any other synonym for it, which to me is just annoying & no where near entertaining.

Progress has been slow on this one. The first 1/3 of the book was fairly entertaining, the 2/3 was absolutely lacking in entertainment, and the 3/3 is yet to be determined. Brings to mind Raskolinikov from Crime and Punishment, the narrator from Hunger... or even Frederick from the Collector. Very internal, from a narrator's point of view.

I'm almost done! Atwood is brilliant. & tho they both deserve 5 stars, I prefer year of the flood to oryx & crake. Cannot wait for the final installment!
