In the section I'm reading right now, Thorby is trying to learn and integrate into a totally new culture and Heinlein speaks about how those within the culture know things that they can't tell him because they don't know that they know them, because they learned them subconsciously as part of growing up in the culture; though somewhat frustrating, I found this insightful.

Reading through this, I am fully convinced of the necessity of all mankind to keep a diary. Had any of the characters so far not kept a diary they may have already lost in their battle against the undead! Do your part, you never know when someone will need to read your diary in order to take out a vampire!

Reading this book is somewhat surreal. On one level, it is definitly good and creepy, but the weird thing is trying to remember that, when this book was written, nobody knew who Dracula was, so when Jonathan is going on his trip to visit Count Dracula in his castle, I'm like "NOO!!" but he has no idea, and people who read this when it came out had no idea... it's weird reading a book that's become such an icon.
