"All the fighting and the dreams. It's about money, isn't it?"

At this point I guess one of themes of the book is about conflicts and confusion caused by commodities and materialistic urge. Maybe there's going to be some message about importance of friendship in contrast to it.

I read between the lines and interpret some commentary about capitalism. Especially considering the black kitten of main character and how he and adults think and feel about it.

I like it when a writer uses small details in the life of characters that makes them and their life look like. Neil Gaiman sounds good in doing that. Burned toasts and stolen comic, ha!

This is my first Neil Gaiman book. I've read 10% of it and here's my early impressions:

It just went sad right in the beginning pages! I am used to melancholic fiction and really like it when it's written beautifully. So far this book seems one of them.

There are three more points I'm going to jot down in next percentages of progress (because of character limit).
