I feel like I need to learn a lot more about Chinese history to better appreciate which parts of this story are actual history and what's alternate history! Even though I don't super know what's going yet on I am very intrigued!

Enjoying this book, but reading about dystopias is a little less satisfying when our world seems to be turning into one every time I look at the news.

Turning out to be a very good book. Non-linear story telling (we'll sort of linear, but jumping between settings?) and unconventional families with strong bonds - a few of my favorite things!

I know this is going to be a feminist book with time travel in it, but man, does it start out with patriarchal violence and institutional injustice like a punch to the gut. Hoping it gets a bit less intense soon!

After a long book, it's so nice to have a good brisk read as a palette cleanser
