This is the end of Book 2. In this book, Augustine discusses the moral decline that had been happening the Roman empire for centuries, and how Christianity is not to blame for the recent invasion. Rather, the power of selfish, malignant demons was most-likely to blame for the gradual, moral decline of the empire which led to its eventual fall.

Just finished book 1, and I am amazed so far. I wish that I had begun this far earlier. So far, Augustine has lovingly and pastorally discussed the matter of conscience as it applies to what happens to a person's body, against his will, and what matter it is to the believer what happens to his body after death. The body, to Augustine, is as important as the mind, though there is still a distinction between the two.
