There is just too much going on in this book that you need to remember book 5 and 6 really well for. I am going to have to read the Tor Rereads Malazan summaries on those books before I can continue. I am just so lost as to who is who and what is going on. Amazing book, but I read book 6 a year ago... and book 5 even longer ago... and it's hard to recall those

Every time I read a page I feel as though I have read an important masterpiece of literary prose... of poetic genius. You may laugh one moment and be shocked into susserating awe the next, then be thrown deeply into a mire of dispair, only to gape in horror or humor.

Erikson does not waste words. He is careful to avoid repeat phrases. The care with which he elucidates to the reader upon the intricacies of the world, its present, its history, its pending future, is awe inspiringly grandiose.

The language. The phraseology of the narratives. The humor. The brutal darkness. The epic battles of magic and demons and human. I have never in my life read such eloquent literary perfection. The magic system that is unlike any other you have read about. The grand scope. The endless nuggets of intrigue.

Good story so far. I did have to sit down and go back over pages 1-138, there were so many characters. The two cases were also muddling things. Very interesting so far.
