Some lovely descriptive writing of the countryside. But all the characters are unidimensional. Understandably it was meant to rile readers up to protest the corruption and cruelty of the Catholic Church in the Philippines, but I miss the subtlety of Poisonwood Bible which was equally scathing in its critique of religion and colonisation.

Was extremely nervous starting the book because I know nothing about math, art or music, but so far he's not making assumptions about Traders' prior knowledge and most of it can be followed.

Mostly a response to critics of Oppressed. Not a vital read unless you're a die-hard Freire fan
