I’m reading the Kindle edition, and it’s astonishing to me how poorly edited it is. I’ve read some print books by Ms. Pearl-McPhee, I’ve read her blog, I’ve seen her speak at events, and I’ve even taken one of her classes, and I would say that she’s articulate, funny, and has a firm grasp of the English language that is not reflected in this. Perhaps her editor should have another look through.

On page ix of the introduction, we find this gem:

This book is frustratingly slow, especially since the October that I’m reading about is NOTHING like the October of previous books, and is highly unlikeable to boot.

One chapter in and I’m back to being mad at Ms. McGuire. I didn’t like that the previous book ended on a cliffhanger, an offense so egregious that I considered quitting the series, so to have this one begin with a pathetic October is extremely disappointing.

Does anyone know what a “purple cowlick sweater” is?
