This might be my favourite book in the series yet!

How the hell is this book so good?????????

Oh god, I can't put this down tonight!

I just can't put this down! I absolutely love Michael J Sullivan, and this is the most gripping installment yet. His growth as a writer across the series is very evident.

To think these were massive sellers when he was still self published! Excellent adventure writing. Wonderful characters.

Hate to say it...some of these side characters just do not interest me. Yawn.

So I totally forgot who Eaganin and Bethamin were.

Wow. It seems really jarring to suddenly have characters that faded completely from memory take centre stage with their own POV chapters.

Am I lost? Eek...a little. Thank you Google!

Finally reached the Mat chapters, and already the pages are whizzing by again! It's taking me forever to read this installment. Waaaay longer than I would like

This book breaks so many rules of how to write a book it's unreal, and even crazier still, Dyrk Ashton gets away with it. This is a CRAZY book and I absolutely love it! Paternus won't be for everyone, and on paper it's not even for me, but it's impossible to put down, and all to easy to pick back up.

Do I love it? Yes!

This book as it goes along feels more and more like a classic. After an intriguing, but ropey start, this book soars, and the characters really grow.

Ok, so I seem to be back on track and in love with this series again.

Well after a very slow start that sort of melted my mind with boredom, I have once again found myself sucked back into the story, and a lot of it is due to the love I have for these characters.

The focus on Elayne is not my favourite choice though. I liked her, but she's becoming insufferable (which I notice a fair few characters think too).

Also, the "rescue Faile" storyline just feels like padding.

Cassandra Clare is my guilty pleasure, only I don't feel guilty about it 😂

Oh this book...damn

This is still wonderfully written, but for some reason I'm taking forever to get through this one.

Not sure how I feel about so many new plot development taking place this late in the story. The search for Faile seems like such a distraction from the main plot, and we already have many more important threads of story to focus on and remember.

Oh well.

Every chapter, I warm to it more and more. This is an elaborate world, diverse in its cultural influences, but also charmingly goofy, funny, fast paced and really intriguing. This might be the most unique fantasy world I have read in a very, very, very long time.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I recommend trying this. Tip: stick with the first few chapters. It's a little rough, but quickly finds its feet.

I've been distracted by other books. Sue me. 😂
