This is so interesting. It's not a society I would want to live in, but I really admire what Roberson is doing and I am enthralled.

A case of not easy to like characters, brilliant writing that still makes you care.

The more I read this, the more excited I get about the potential for the rest of the series. This is a must read for fans of Jordan, Sanderson, Tad Williams, Terry Brooks, Islington, Michael J. Sullivan et al.

This is ridiculously underrated, and I would love to hear from other readers there thoughts on this. And in spite of its size, this is a gripping, well paced read that never once feels like a chore.

So this book won't be for everyone. It has a savage, primitive edge to it that makes reading some of the discourse between men and women quite hard to read. But there is a feral beauty to Roberson's world and I have to say, I really, really like it. It also isn't a massive book, and yet the worldbuilding is as impressive as many much larger books. I see Roberson becoming a big obsession of mine.

A really rather interesting, and somewhat dated (perhaps more rapiness than is strictly required), I can't help but wonder if Jordan and Hobb read this. Men with yellow eyes and wolf bonds? Check. Wit like bonding magic? Check. A genocide of sorts against those with animal magic? Check. A royal family lead storyline? Check.

So far, so good, and lovely, clean prose.

Shannara doesn't seem to be cool these days, but it remains comforting and wondrous to me after all these years in a way most newer releases aren't.

Ok I admit it, I LOVE CASSANDRA CLARE, and I'm okay with that. Seriously I am. Just don't tell anyone. Please. I beg of you. Not that I am ashamed, YOU'RE ASHAMED!

Shannara is comfort reading. I think everyone deserves a series that puts them at ease. This is one that does that for me.

For a series that constantly gets derided for being "derivative", I can't help but still think that this first trilogy is better than most hyped new series, and easily better than the vast majority of modern YA.

As a huge Avatar The Last Airbender TV show fan, how did I not know of the prequel novels?

I like the writing, but I'm drawn immediately to the characters, and it's a world I'm glad lived on past the medium of television.
