I love this

I am quietly in a slump (reading 38 books in about six months can have that effect), so for the past few weeks I have been slowly enjoying this on a reread. A great series, I will forever be at home at Hogwarts.

Took a chance on this. I love historical fiction, however I always wrote this author off assuming she was *gasp* a romance writer. Instead I am immersed in a very atmospheric and moving novel set in the 1930s, in the increasingly scary time leading up to WW2. So far, this compares favourably to Follett and Wouk.

This book takes the nuclear war horror of Threads and combines it with good old fashioned mutant rats, and its surprisingly effective.

Well this is a nice change in tone! Nuclear bombs and the threat of mutant rats? YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION
