This is a strange book. I put it down for weeks, having tired of it. Now as I resume it, ive gone from contemplating DNFing it to thinking it's one of the most quietly powerful, painfully poignant examination of what grief can do to a man (notably, losing a child to cancer), and what it feels to lose everything, including hope.

King is a master writer, but his dramatic works are just as haunting as his horror.

This is a strange book...its another example of King being the peak of characterisation...but is it a joy to read?

No.

Still, I feel for everyone involved in this story.

Kind of annoyed now that I took a break from this exceptional series. It's been a challenge to pick it back up now that I am immersed in other reads!

Still, this is a reread of a book I know very well. It's not the worst thing to happen to my reading habits 🤣

Okay so one chapter was a bit Bible meets Silmarillion...a bit heavy handed but also kinda fascinating.

I can definitely see why this book isn't for everyone, but if you pine for classic fantasy with the depth, breadth and wisdom of Wheel Of Time, you could do far worse than try this!

This is a really promising start to a trilogy I see so little love for. Maybe it gets worse, but I'm eager to carry on further.
