- As vrea sa stiu cum esti alcatuit pe dinlauntru…Cum e vointa ta pe dinlauntru, ce anume exista in acea parte a fiintei tale pe care tu nu socotesti c-o simti.

- E ceva foarte feminin… Ceva din materia lucrurilor ireale!

- Oare ce iubesti mai mult — il iubesti pe el, sau iubirea ta?

- El este iubirea mea… El si iubirea mea sunt acelasi lucru… In mine nu exista nicio diferenta…

Now I am convinced that that moment of contemplation was nothing but love itself, in its most human form, tragically short and yet absolute.

No, there is nothing else to discover, nothing more beautiful that you could wish for. Only that woman with closed eyes and that man who saw the snowflakes settling on the closed eyelids of the one he loved. Nothing else.

Astfel, nebunii si poetii scapa cateodata din plasa existentei acesteia banale, legitimata de obisnuintele, de fricile noastre si de incapacitatea noastra de a iubi.

”You must read it over me some day. Whatever may be the issue of all this fearful state of things, it will be a sweet thought to all or some of us. You, my dearest, will I hope read it, for then it will be in your voice in my memory forever, come what may!"

"But oh, my dear one," he pleaded, "death is afar off from you.”

”It is really wonderful how much resilience there is in human nature. Let any obstructing cause, no matter what, be removed in any way, even by death, and we fly back to first principles of hope and enjoyment. More than once as we sat around the table, my eyes opened in wonder whether the whole of the past days had not been a dream.”

Van Helsing strode forward, and took his hand, looking him straight in the eyes as he said,

”A brave man's blood is the best thing on this earth when a woman is in trouble. You're a man and no mistake. Well, the devil may work against us for all he's worth, but God sends us men when we want them.”

[…] He seems absolutely imperturbable. I can fancy what a wonderful power he must have over his patients. He has a curious habit of looking one straight in the face, as if trying to read one's thoughts. He tries this on very much with me, but I flatter myself he has got a tough nut to crack. I know that from my glass.

I was at first interested and somewhat amused, for it is wonderful how small a matter will interest and amuse a man when he is a prisoner. But my very feelings changed to repulsion and terror when I saw the whole man slowly emerge from the window and begin to crawl down the castle wall over the dreadful abyss, face down , with his cloak spreading out around him like great wings.

”Ah, young sir, the Szekelys, and the Dracula as their heart's blood, their brains, and their swords, can boast a record that mushroom growths like the Hapsburgs and the Romanoffs can never reach. The warlike days are over. Blood is too precious a thing in these days of dishonourable peace, and the glories of the great races are as a tale that is told.”

The view was magnificent,& from where I stood there was every opportunity of seeing it.The castle is on the very edge of a terrific precipice.A stone falling from the window would fall a 1000 feet without touching anything! As far as the eye can reach is a sea of green tree tops, with occasionally a deep rift where there is a chasm. Here &there are silver threads where the rivers wind in deep gorges through the forests

”You may go anywhere you wish in the castle, except where the doors are locked, where of course you will not wish to go. There is reason that all things are as they are, and did you see with my eyes and know with my knowledge, you would perhaps better understand.”

I said I was sure of this, and then he went on.

There seemed a strange stillness over everything. But as I listened, I heard as if from down below in the valley the howling of many wolves. The Count's eyes gleamed, and he said.

"Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!"

Seeing, I suppose, some expression in my face strange to him, he added,

“Ah, sir, you dwellers in the city cannot enter into the feelings of the hunter."

[…] but just then the moon, sailing through the black clouds, appeared behind the jagged crest of a beetling, pine-clad rock, and by its light I saw around us a ring of wolves, with white teeth and lolling red tongues, with long, sinewy limbs and shaggy hair. They were a hundred times more terrible in the grim silence which held them than even when they howled. For myself, I felt a sort of paralysis of fear..

Welcome to the Carpathians. I am anxiously expecting you. Sleep well to-night. At three to-morrow the diligence will start for Bukovina; a place on it is kept for you. At the Borgo Pass my carriage will await you and will bring you to me. I trust that your journey from London has been a happy one, and that you will enjoy your stay in my beautiful land.

I had no doubt that Liza still loved the prince and would do so for a long time, but as a man both self-abasing and abased by circumstances, I did not even dream of her love: all I desired was her friendship. I wanted to gain her trust and respect, which, so experienced people assure me, are considered a firm basis for happiness in marriage...

[...] can love really be a natural emotion? Love is a sickness, and sickness knows no laws. Granted, at times my heart contracted unpleasantly and everything within me was turned upside down. How would you have one know what is awry and what isn't or what the cause or significance is of each individual emotion?
