Reading about the injustices towards the people whose stories are told in this book is almost too much to bear. Some of their choices in life are terrible. Stereotypical, even. Still, it's painful to read their stories and see how impossibly the odds are stacked against them. They have no protections, no recourse, no one to fight for them when they need it the most. It's heartbreaking.
