I do like books with a sense of history but I think this shines when it’s not attempting to carry the weight of all of black history or rock history and is instead focused on being a personal history. The name dropping is a little disorienting at times but I’ll deal.

something in this book is keeping me mentally hostage, its not that long and i more or less enjoy it when i do pick it up but getting to that point is like pulling teeth

This is giving me major déjà vu to Station Eleven (cover art, plot, the intricate connections between the characters) and I’m kind of loving it.

I did not expect philosophy to be so front and centre. The book picks the reader I guess.
