Current thoughts: it's... Fine. Dialogue is kinda stilted and expository, and nearly 150 pages in, the characters have yet to develop outside of their archetypal qualities, but it's still fairly early yet. Biggest problem is that Sanderson repeats himself A LOT, not leaving any room for interpretation.

It is fast paced and very easy to read though.

I don't know about this. Covenant is a loathsome person (and yes, full of his own pain) which is something I can deal with, but beyond his reprehensible actions not having a huge effect on himself or those around him, the fantasy world and plotting here is pretty standard and unengaging.

Time will tell if the character's actions lead to actual consequences. Reserving my total judgement until it's finished.
