“I wish there could be an invention… that could bottle up a memory like scent that never faded.”

I’m concurrently reading a totally different book that’s about hiding away not so far from one’s loved ones (All Fours) and I’m liking it so much more than this.

Reading a little bit each day before work.

There’s also so much of this that feels like it’s plucked from the zeitgeist in a weird way, like “transom” as a word or the Mandela effect. The characters explain this to us in a forced way. And again the flowery prose is excessive and sometimes doesn’t make sense.

I really don’t like this but I’m going to keep listening. It’s strange because it has a lot of themes I’m I retested in reading about but the tone feels like a fantasy novel to me.

I still feel like this isn’t for me but at the same time I’m already in it and will likely see it through.

This book reminds me of a story I’d make up out loud when a migraine is coming on and I’m feeling loopy.
