Seems to have a strong start with a good mystery. Also has this Crichton / Ludlum matter of fact writing style I love. I hope this is a real sci-fi thriller. I hope it doesn't detail into nonsense.

Seeing how this is 100 pages long, I thought I would zip thru this thing in a couple nights. Nope. This is surprising dense little tale. Taking a lot longer than I expectex.

The ghosts were manifestations of grief? Okay fine. That's kinda lame. Led to a cheap ending. But 3 stories in with two being great. That's not too shabby. Still enjoying this book.

I had no idea Joe Hart wrote good horror. Always thought he just wrote thrillers. This is really so far. Might have to keep an eye on this author to check out more of his stuff.

So the latest story is all about anti vaxers, flat earthers, and disinformation from the crooked government. Sigh..... I see enough if this crazy stuff in real life. Don't need it reiterated in what I'm reading. Hopefully the rest of the stories aren't going to continuing preaching about what is wrong with the world, bc I already know.

A lot of these stories are mediocre and predictable feeling like a lesser episode of the twilight zone or outer limits. Then I read story The Daughter, and it was great. Smart clever sci-fi that pulls at the heartstrings. It just raised the bar on storytelling for this anthology.

The 1st story reminds me a lot of a episode of Night Visions. Anyone watch that show? It was an 2000s Twilight Zone rip off that was really good. Didn't last very long though. Wonder if its streaming anywhere. I also wonder if the author watched that show or if the similarities are a coincidence?

I really want to know how forging a dead author in a petty scam causes the collapse of the universe.

A couple of con men intend to forge Hemingway's style and they found of his lost work. I am not sure what this has to do with sci-fi but it's strangely entertaining. It really didn't have any rights be.

I actually loved this series when it started, but it now just seems wander aimlessly and is weird for the sake of being weird. I mean its treating earlier tropes. The split personality thing again. Travelling to New York without time or reason in ghost form. This terrible pregnancy subplot. What about the wolves? I want to see the ka tek face this new villain. Not travel thru dreams.

I know this is Roland's story, but oh man, Eddie Dean is such a scene stealer. I may have a lot of complaints about this series, but Eddie Dean has never been one of them. One if favorite characters ever.

I like it when accents are part of storytelling. It always makes the world more fun and believable.

Clearly King is making this up as he goes. Feels like no arc was planned out at all as some these new twists and turns are so random. But whatever. It may not be a masterpiece, but it's weird enough to be pretty entertaining. And that's all that matters right? Its doesn't always gave to be super good. It can just be a fun time and that is completely fine.

Since Susannah was introduced I've been confused. I did like the idea of a woman gunslinger in the ka tek but I never understood how she can be useful so I've been waiting for her arc to kick in. There must be some meaning to why she's here. Now her arc has arrived. She's pregnant and crazy with split personalities again. That's it. She really is pointless isn't she? It's real unfortunate. I wanted her to be more.

I dunno what to think about this series. Loved the prequel story and 1st 2 novels. The 3rd was downright silly. The 4th a weird 30/70 ratio of silly to great. There is no middle ground it seems. This one so far is just weird. I can't tell if the series is going to return to the scary dark fantasy or stray into the goofy again. I hope its the former.

So this clan of strange people with powers have a strange small steel ball that flies thru area targeting people and then kills them with a blade hidden inside of it. OMG! Ur ripping off the Phantasm Mr. King! Seriously this is a shameless stealing from a cult horror movie series. But should I expect? If he rips of Silent Hill to write the Mist, then why stop there? I just wish it wasn't so obvious.

50 pages from the end and I still feel like I'm waiting for the book to get started. How can it have a conclusion if there is no beginning or middle?

78% of the way thru and nothing has really happen. Sure the first 30 pages were action packed but mostly its been just conversations and interviews since then.
