So this borderline psychotic bad guy has flipped to a calm understanding good guy on a dime. And the book is really trying hard to make it work. And I want it to work bc it's a interesting story arc. But the author isn't selling it well. I'll get used to the 2.0 version of this character over time I'm sure, but it's hard to believe this change of heart at this point in the book.

So Inan can read minds and somehow accidentally read all the memories of Ziele 's life. But now he's often thinking back to them like how cute was as a child or the times she proved herself a beautiful capable young woman with fondness. And it's kinda of creepy. Bc he doesn't know her and he's also attracted to her while wanting to murder her. There's just so many levels of wrong here.

So the main bad guy just became a good guy. Who's going to be the villain now?

Omg. Children r literally be slaughtered in front of her & Amari can bring herself to fight just a little bit. I know she's scared. But wow! She really didn't try to do anything.

Within half a day they travel from deep jungle mountain to a Sahara like desert. That is quite a sudden change in scenery for travelling on foot.

This story has so much potential with a unique setting and quest story line. But now it is beginning to fall into cliche YA territory.

Really? We're hopping to someone else's POV to show Ziele discovering her powers. Seeing how it's such a part of Ziele with her family and the culture of her slaughtered people, the scene should be personal and intimate. Seems wrong show this all from the distance of a side character where it's completely removed of emotion.

I'm always looking for a fantasy that breaks away from the norm. I wonder how this will do.

So this was supposed to be a tv show on the CW written and produced by Joe Hill. The network passed on the show so he took the scripts he had and turned them into this anthology. And from what I read so far I think the network made a mistake. I would have definitely been tuning in every week to watch this.

This volume started out with some real kick butt awesome stories, then meandered into the quality of meh to bad. I'm at the end now, and I noticed the last 4 tales increased in quality and r super enjoyable again. I guess the book wanted to return to its former glory and go out on a high mote.

Yes. Octopi r creepy! I'm glad someone else agrees enough to write a horror story around them. Bc I dunno know about everyone else but they r nightmare fuel for me.

Gideon is coming thief a spy agency decided to take a chance on. Mindy is an experienced FBI agent. So why is the thief making the master plans of taking down an international assassin while the FBI lady seems to be useless contributing nothing? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Why aren't there more agents involved? Why is she trusting him so much? This book makes me ask so many question.

Gideon 's method of breaking into a place:

"Hey r u the security of this place?"
"Yes"
"Cool. If I wanted to break into this place. How would I do it?" Guard tells him almost everything. Then goes "wait a.minute. Why do want to know this?"
"I'm just curious"
Guard stops being skeptical & goes"Oh okay. " and then continues to tell him more.

And this method works multiple times throughout this book!

Gideon is kinda the worst spy ever but everyone is so dumb he pulls it off. Why is this book.written this way? These r good authors. But this is not great like their other works. It's not flat out bad. It's just disjointed from reality for some reason.

Really? CIA employee hits on a man that she just detained and barely knows. Super unprofessional. Also isn't that sexual harassment too? I think the author is trying to do this James Bond thing where women always fall for the lead. But this really came across wrong.

U know those rare Redbox rental rip offs of Hollywood blockbusters that are surprisingly well made, corny, and enjoyable despite not being original at all. This book is the equivalent to that. I'm having fun, but it's not the best.

For a master thief Gideon seems to be pretty lousy. He speaks to guard basically saying hes going to rob the place. He doesn't use gloves so his finger prints are everywhere, leaves his gun behind, cuts himself on wire on the way out & on top of all that he takes a pee in a bush right outside the building before he starts the robbery. Why didn't he leave a signed photo as well? Sheesh! This guy is terrible at his job
