Almost 100 pages in and nothing has happened. I think I'm gonna take a break and come. I think this might be Timeline situation. Where things are kicked up a notch 200 pages in and suddenly turns into my favorite booj. I wanna give it that chance. But I might read this in chunks between other things because its just not very enjoyable right now.

I knew it. Darlington came out pretty damaged. Poor guy.

They finally saved Darlington! 😊

I don't think I've seen a book I was enjoying so much fall apart in the second half quite like this. Such a phenomenol tense spooky build up led to this meandering mess of randomness and I hate to say it, but lazy writing. Yes. I was anxiously waiting see what happened to Darlington, but I can wait longer if the book needs more time. 😔

They walk into hell. Its all spooky like, but they just find Darlington first thing to save him, After all that build up, this is hell? The rescue is this easy? I thought there would be so much more. There must be a twist in the next few pages. There's 200 hundred pages left.

I kinda love how Alex is an awful person driven to do the right thing somehow. A broken character that somehow has a moral compass that works.I love these sorts of characters. There's so much more to them than the typical hero.

Vampires? Okay book. That's a weird left turn. I don't now how I feel about it. Seems campy in an otherwise serious tale. But I'm trusting you to make this work.

Alex could be nice to one ghost I would think. I know why she has to ignore them. But come on, Darlington's dead grandpa just wanted to know where he was. Watched over him for yrs unable to speak to him,always worrying. Alex could humour him just a little bit.

Oh poor Darlington. I want him to be rescued. I want him to be okay. But my gut is telling me, he's not going to be. He's gonna be so damaged that things are gonna go very wring. I just know it.

Well this is uniquely weird but fun story to start with.

Read the first story so far. It was about sized fun campy ride. I wonder if the rest of the stories are gonna be as fun.

Like the book fine. Can't really connect with the characters but a good read. Then a evil sandstorm hits the city as the leads must go in guns blazing essentially into an Egyptian version of ministry of magic to face false Muslim messiah who is using monsters to punish the police inside. So yeah. It hit just right level of crazy to get more respect out of me. Lol

Such an odd book so far

Can we all just take a minute to appreciate how badass and awesome Murphy is. Bc she’s freaking amazing sometimes.

So many great subplots that are dropped. A mountain of wasted potential given the lore the author created. Time jumps. Rushed sections. Odd twists and turns. It even seemed like it was about have a perfect climax and ending before pivoting again for100 pages . I dunno what think about this? I wanna love it. It has so many great ideas but its all so messy and not as cohesive as it should be.

Since they big scary monster element has been revealed the mystery is gone. It shifted from tense horror to dark fantasy now. Still fun tho. But holy crap that first half was suspenseful. Couldnt last forever I guess. But it could still turn back into something creepy. I read Hex. This guy does this sort of stuff real well.

This author is tapping into the fear of the unknown so well giving it all this creepy undertone. Its great! This is the spooky stuff I expected when I first tried reading Stephen King. The "master" of horror disappoints while some random Dutch author I ever heard wows me.

I really love this guy's writing. Hoping this book lives up his last. I would love for this author to become one of my new favorites.
