I understand the virus in this book alters ur DNA. U end up as someone with super powers or a monster. But how does it turn lady into a train? Not joking here. A lady who has the virus turns into a train cart? Now I love fantasy, but come on, this is a really stupid plot point.

On one hand I applaud the book as it carries a well crafted alternate American history forward with these interconnected shorts. It went from the 40's all the way to early seventies so far. But on the other hand I really miss the setting of the 40s. It felt so fresh and unique. I really wish the whole book took place in that decade.

Learned something new tonight. When a book is crazy fantasy and is told from multiple viewpoints while half of the characters are on LSD it's very hard to tell what is going on.

In not sure how this love story between this hippi girl and straight laced no nonsense guy relates to aces and jokers at all. But it is still very fascinating. I'm still entertained. That's all that counts right?

Not a big fan of mobsters or stories that focuses on sex. so this Ace mobster story in this collection is the 1st one I don't like and I hope it's the last. B/c even though it's not perfect all these stories have been fun in one way or another.

This book is is doing an interesting job weaving all these small character driven tales in and out of one another in a thirty year timeline. It makes the world feel real. And it's hard to pull off in general. Bravo wildcards! Ur doing an awesome job so far.

This book is messy roller coaster of themes & tones. It starts like Willy Wonka then turns into a campy Tailspin episode, becomes a sad wanna make u cry Outer Limits, then turns into the Fantastic 4 and now it's Legion. This book really is a little bit of everything.

As one would expect with republicans, they decide to report the illegal alien. which given the circumstances r fair here. But this alien is is from space! How does that work? It's 1947. Do they shove him in a cannon & shoot toward the sky like a Looney toon? Rockets weren't really a thing. The book never explains it & just states the deportation took place. Now brain is tying itself in knot trying to figure out how.

I'm glad the story moved into new characters last Croyd 's story arc. B/c holy wow, was the Croyd bit so sad and depressing. The book was trying so hard to make me cry and it almost did it at point! Thank goodness it lightened up a bit.

The 2nd short/chapter in this book suspiciously feels like a plot from a 90s outer limits episode I saw as a kid. Nice to see this story tackled in a different way. In fact it's more interesting than the episode I remember. No where near as melodramatic, which is good thing.

This is beginning to give flashbacks of a show I used to watch as a kid called Tailspin. It has that vibe for reason. But it's really fun so far.

Never read GRR Martin before so this is the first book by him I ever read. But wow. This has one wonky opening. I'm not making any judgements yet. This could lead something great. But it leaves one silly 1st impression.

Holy crap! The 2nd short in this book feel like a part 1 to weird cheesey 90s Stephen King mini series. It's oddly very nonsensical riding off of its weirdness alone. I never seen Joe Hill lean so far into his father's work before. I hope this doesn't become a habit. Not a fan of King. But a big fan of Hill. I know that sounds weird. But I can't change what I like. I just like Hill more.

Approaching the end. Really excited to see how this all turns out. Besides that awful plot twist in the last third that hijacked the story for a little while, things are back in track and the book has been fun. Far from perfect, obviously. The plot twist still feels like a slap in the face. But somehow it's still enjoyable as a whole.

There two typos in tonight's read. I kinda love it when I see typos in popular books. It reminds me that big authors can make the same mistakes as smaller indie writers. And we're not all perfect! 😊

I'm not going to lie. The love story this author is pushing is messed up. He's part of a regime who slaughters her people and puts the children into slavery, but she falls in love with him. This is like a slave falling for the slave owner. Why does this exist in this novel?! The book was so good until this bizarro & somewhat shockingly offensive love story wedged itself in there.

This guy spent half book as a blood thirsty animal and almost succeeded in his quest to kill Ziel 30 pages ago. Now he's acting like he turned over a new.leaf that same girl he tried to kill is falling in love with him? I can understand forgiveness. But love? Women don't fall in love with their attempted murderers no matter how charming. It's a fact of life.
