Its all so political. Maybe I should continue to wait on this one. I'm so sick politics intruding on life. Now it's taking over my books as well.

Wow. Hilo just did that!? Hilo is already a temperamental and irresponsible head of this mobster like family empire. But I thought he might become a better person after being pushed into a role. But it looks like he might be cracking under pressure and he might be worst than before. Such a shame. I did want to root for him. I guess ill just root for Anden now.

Joe Hill stories can be real fun and I finally just read In The Tall Grass and.....WTF Hill. This was really screwed up. It wasn't even scary, it was just.....maybe we shouldn't make miscarriages the central point of horror tales from this moment on. This whole story felt so wrong for so many reasons.

Wow. The first book was more of a mobster tale. with themes of family and honor. This one is do political its beginning to feel like an episode of game of thrones. I hope it manages to live up to the original.

Funny Hilo refers to the goons on this other island as gangsters, his whole royal family operates like the mafia. And he's allowing a full on mob war to rage in the streets of is homeland.

Hilo must travel across the sea to help a relative. Seeing how this is a fantasy, my brain goes "that's a long journey" Then he boards a plane and arrives in an hour. I completely forgot this takes place in modern day for a moment. Lol.

So the prisoner got the knife to slide out of his boot and killed him self while tied up. I'm trying figure how that is possible. Rather than explaining it the author just left it to the readers imagination, and now my brain is in a knot.

Wait. That's the end? What happened to the light house keeper? He didn't seek help. Just went all well, might as well work thru the apocalypse. And what was the point of control? The book acted like he was going to change the world. But he just wanders around aimlessly. The what the point of Gloria's story? What was the point of all this? I thought it would tie together but it turns out to be senseless rambling.

Almost at the end and sadly I really don't care. This story has its moments but seems pointless overall and the characters are so bland. I'm just reading to finish it up now.

This book just meanders from one thing to another and things just kinda happen. It has its good moments, but this intentional incoherence and willfully obtuse form of storytelling is a really shaky foundation for the tale as a whole and for the reader. I can put together what's going on, but I understand very little as to how or why they are doing this. Its just what they're doing now. Just because.

Finally the leads find a purpose. But they really just kinda tripped over it after 200 pages of meandering. I sometimes feel this author has no idea how properly tie all of his thoughts together into a tight story.

Sometimes.we I wish the author was more straight forward with things. I know bending of space, time, reality, and general incoherence is a theme for what is happening. But having the leads traveling to an island just bc they are and they themselves can't understand why really does make the reader struggle to stay engaged bc they are constantly wanting to know why.

This series has always been good by introducing weird and surreal imagery the moment the reader gets book.

With all the surreal images and the concept of space time being warped, I'm kinda liking the side story of the lighthouse keeper before all this happened. He's more likable from the rest of the cast as he seems less robotic and the world is just a little more grounded so its easier to tell what is going on bc I know what is real and what isn't.

Now I know why Whitby was so nutty. He was subconsciously remembering all those area x trips he was put on while in hypnosis. No wonder he was paranoid all the time drawing creepy crap and suffering from nightmares. That place scared him to death but he couldnt remember it other than fuzzy bits and pieces.

I love the annihilation film adaption and was disappointed to see so many the strange see elements of the film not in the book at all. Now I realize that surreal imagery like the glass trees and so forth came from this third book. I'm kinda intrigued now.

Thought the 1st book was ok. The 2nd was awful. But despite giving up on the series I've been told it does bounce back into something good in the 3rd book. Since it was so cheap. I thought I would give it a try.

This is really less about a mystery and more about a human trying to find his place in a world of fantastical creatures. Something is really moving as Fetch faces depression, grief, and racism in a world that seems to not want humans in it. I really feel sorry for the guy. He has declared useless by default since the day he was born.

I though this was going to be a fun rip off Anita Blake or Harry Dressing. But this book has a heart, and has really turned into something so clever and unique. What a great surprise!

So I've been seeing this a lot lately with pronouns. Like here there is a shape shifting creature kinda stuck in an indefinable body. Not quite guy or girl. But the word "they" is used constantly. Its one person, not a group of people. It doesn't make sense in the context of English language. Use the person's name instead. It works so much better and is less confusing!
