Wow. Hilo is such a jerk in this book. Sure he was one in the first book, but he really does some unforgivable things here. Sometimes I wish I could just punch him in the face for all the bad things he dome.

This little weasel kills Lan, and we follow him for two books as the Kaul family wants revenge and he just keeps getting by with everything. Then out of the blue, he dies randomly!? Looks like Fonda Lee might have been taking notes from GOT when planning out this novel.What was the point of following him so long if his arc went nowhere?

Well it only took 250 pages or this story to pick up. Finally so.getting instead of politics.

Politic and family drama. Its s miracle I actually enjoy this nook any. I still miss all the magical gang fights though. I don't think this is as nearly as good as the first book.

Totally called the twist! Jim Butcher is so cliche sometimes. But I have learned to love these books despite the tropes and campiness.

No villain monologue this time around? Really. I'm so used to them by this point in the series. But okay. I'm fine with this trope dying.

So Harry just got drafted into war. I really did not see that coming.

Oh. I'm betting Shiela's not real. I'm beginning to see all the little clues. Really clever Mr. Butcher.

Oh hey Thomas and Harry are acting like genuine brothers. Im enjoying their jabs at each other. Its kinda great.

Harry is a massive dork who crack jokes that never work. And when he messes things up he has friends, a band of misfits to help him out when things get tough. In this book though, he so serious and is pushing his friend away. This solo act just isn't as fun.

So is the author trying to foreshadow Harry and Murphy as a couple? I am not down with that. It will never work.

So I guess Harry is cracking this case solo this time around. I'm going to miss the ensemble cast for this adventure then. Their chemistry with Dresdin is so great.

Zombies, vampires, and werewolves. This is kinda turning out to be the perfect Halloween read at the moment.

Harry's crippled with no use of his left hand after the last book. I'm really surprised they are going with this story beat. Is he th King to be handicapped for the rest of books? I dunno what to think about this choice, but its interesting Harry is now super vulnerable as a one handed wizard now.

Yeah. Jade war is hitting a little close to home as it focuses more and more on politics. As much as I want to, I am not ready to return to that book yet.

Its all so predictable.

Almost at the end and little has happened beyond the chosen one going to witch school and a love triangle. But I should expect this from YA fiction. Why should I expect any different?

Yeah. It is about as cliche as YA can get. But I got to say that reunion with Mal was pretty heartbreaking. The author is clearly doing something right when she can tug at the heart strings.

Of course there's a live triangle! I should be paying YA bingo with this book. But its nice fluff and not depressing so I'm going to stick for it for now.

Well this is pretty cliche as far as the fantasy genre goes. But at the same time this author is really good at making layered likable leads. I'm not sure if Alina can save this book from being mediocre but this lead character is the only thing me keep interest at the moment.

Darn it! She is going to witch school. Since Harry Potter every YA fantasy must have magical school of some kind. I'm really tired if seeing this trope. Hopefully it won't dominate the whole book or the author can make it unique enough. After reading the 9th House I know she's more than capable of doing so, but will she?

She's at the palace now and she's learning witches are divided into group. Please don't have the rest of the story with Alina attending magic classes! Its so over done.

This is pretty generic. But I really need this fluff read right now.

Yeah. I stopped reading Jade War for a while. Its so political and now the clans both have very unstable leaders. Feels just a little close to home. Need to read something that dies not resemble the real world in slightest right now. Ill return to it when the world gets a little better.
