Why do some sci-fi writers have to always have crazy new worlds. It can be nice sometimes but most of the time its just word soup u by have to remember as it has little to do with the core story.

So the tower is just an infinite loop leading people in circle. Interesting twist. But its not sci-fi at all. Makes me wonder why it was included in this collection

Well that whole tapeworm chapter was horrific. Really did not see that coming. The book has been pretty mild until now. I guess its time to ramp up the scary in the final chapters.

Wait a minute! A member of the traveling handsome dude stage show who raises money in the of a God is an actual exorcist and Abby went to him for help?! Its like this author really liked Peter Vincent from Fright Night, but wanted to put dude bro twist on the whole thing. Compliments to trying to twist a ripped off idea into ur own thing and all, but I find this choice more silly than fun.

So was this written before or after Ginger Snaps? Bc I've been getting heavy flashbacks to that movie as I read this.

So nobody cared about rape in the 1980s did they? In their eyes weed was more dangerous than crazy men attacking women. That's really messed up.

This is really surprising me. Typically horror novel bore me but this keeping my attention.

This is now very slowly turning into Jennifer's Body. Anyone remember that movie? I feel like the whole world has forgotten that movie exists.

This feels like old school YA horror. The sort of old dusty books I would find in my school library before harry potter and the others took over. I never realized how I missed this style. No cliches. No love triangles. No chosen one. No melodrama. Nothing really all that fantastical. Just a bunch of relatable kids that are stumbling across some spooky stuff.

So in the 1980s girls would be excused from classes when they got their period? Well I bet that was exploited to hell while it lasted. It would make skipping school way too easy.

I dunno how I feel bc about this. Feels like the book is setting uo a plot of an 80s teen horror like Fright Night or Night of the Comet. But at the same time I love those old movies, so this might all turn out to be a good thing after all.

Heard good things about this author. Thought I would give him a try.

Wow. Marsh is fully on crazy. I knew there was a cut throat manner between paleontologists in this time. But he has put this kid through hell and after leaving for dead he returns a year later to rob him. What a real piece of crap!

First his college professor is trying to kill him, now he's trapped in this town where some outlaws want to kill him. Talk about the worst luck in the world. I hope this guy gets some sort of happy ending.

Omg! He can't get out of this dumb town!

So Deadwood was actually a real place. Huh. Well I guess its always nice learn something new.

This book was a work in progress found on Crichton's computer long after death. I can see areas where plot points are overlooked & excerpts from history books are being used in to fill the blanks here & there. Its messy. But I rather read this version than one than was mangled by a new author who was called in to "finish" it . That's what happened with Micro & it destroyed the novel.

The old west isn't sugar coated here which I like in history books It was an awful time. And a number of westerns seem to gloss over the fact that the US was attempting genocide against an entire race of people at the time. It was pretty bad for the native Americans. I'm glad there are books willing to acknowledge this is the world their cowboys roamed in.

Carrying loaded guns. Seeing prostitutes. Leaving students behind in random towns with no money. College field trips were different in 1875. Lol!

The cutthroat world of 1800s paleontology is such a fascinating corner of history.

People thought the telephone would be a useless invention. Lol. Oh they had no idea how much it would change the world.

I miss Michael Crichton. I really wish he was still alive providing more great stories for everyone.

I know these r considered YA books. But the first book dealt with adult themes such as espionage and terrorism making it all feel more adult than a lot of adult novels. This book though is so pulpy and simple. Its much more YA than the first novel.

Forgiveness is a beautiful thing, but Zen performed an act of terrorism in the last book and got people killed. That's not something easy to forgive.

Aren't these crab kraitt bad guys the same bad guys from mass effect andromeda? I know it's been a long time since I played that game, but it all just seems too similar.

Biomechanical trains have been a strange theme for these books. Its weird but not too crazy. Now I reached a chapter was some of these strange living trains evolved as part of the wildlife life. I really hope this book doesn't jump the shark bc its getting pretty nutty now.
