Very surprised by how this so mediocre. Its not bad, but its so basic and by the numbers. I wish there was more action. The story more original. Exciting twists and turns. Or just great characters. Its all very meh. Not bad, but not great either.

This really doesn't read Like Del Toro at all. But its okay so far. I'm enjoying it for what it is. And its fine. Its just that when Del Toro is attached to something I have a certain set of expectations. Now that I know those expectations are not going to be met, ill just enjoy the ride.

This book reminds me of something that's been on my mind lately. If u live in the deep south, don't time travel. Its just real bad. Not a good place at all.

Feels like an X Files episode so far and I'm completely fine with that.

Never read a del Toro book before. But its fun so far.

In the first 30 pages, there's a hijacking, terrorism, mass murder and spooky stuff. What an opening! A far cry from the book I just gave up on, where two warring factions did nothing but talk about faith for a over 100 pages. I should have been reading this!

Really not sure if I am going to finish this. Its just boring. Maybe the world dark isn't enough. Something has to happen.

These two are at war bc they have different faiths!? OMG! Most wars in history are fought over this. Despite the colorful world I feel like I'm reading a history book. I expected something more. Something edgy with monsters like advertised. I think I might have to peek ahead on a book plot wiki to find out if this is worth my time. Risking spoilers are worth it, if it means that I can move onto something better

Look a religious loony with too much power is making everyone miserable. Talk about a trope done to death.

I dunno what to think about this. Its has good cover and a good sales pitch of high fantasy mixed with love crafts an horror . But its very generic so far. Nothing special at all.

Like the rain maker. Not a big fan of the ending.

It begins with Everett witnessing a kidnapping and dashing into another world to save his father. Now he's teamed up with a quirky airship crew doing steam punk swashbuckling. Its fun and all, but what about his dad? He's further away from his goal that he was in the first chapter. How is he ever going to save his dad at this rate?

I dunno if its the heat wave or the book, but I can't stick with it long without getting sleepy. The book isn't bad or anything.

I dunno how feel about this story. It seems a bit basic ck pared to his other work.

When did it become.e agreed upon between all sci-fi authors that in the far future everyone will dress silly. I understand fashion that can come across alien and unusual from outside the time period. But in every sci-fi book people in the future dress like clowns. Why? Bc its the future, does everyone just decide to just wear brightly colored garbage? I don't understand this trend.

Might be jumping the shark a little bit here. Sure Ev is a genius and he could visualize a map with its unique rules about how parallel universes connect. I buy that. The fact that he could program it into a computer to control this world gate within a couple hours. No way! That has to be turned into software and it might not be equipped at all. I don't care how smart u are. Programming takes time.

I can typically zip thru at 25 pages a night will a lot of authors. But Ian McDonald's writing is so dense with the technology and world building my reading speed seems to slow way down just to take it all in. I dunno if its a good thing or bad thing, but I do really love this book so far.

Really want to read more but a little mouse in my apartment tied up my time. Got to bed too late. Too sleepy to read a lot.

Not sure what to think about it yet. But i love Ian McDonald s work building and the mystery so far is pretty fun.

I know a lot of these stories are old but they date themselves sometimes. I mean the characters have water beds. Last time I remember anything about a water bed was when I was little and my parents telling me it was a fad they were glad that went away.

Its intriguing how this whole book is Dresden dealing with his friend's family drama more than than mystery and monsters. This is a weird installment.

Never liked it when this series leaves Chicago for the fairy realm. Where the city has grounded rules and great mystery, the fairy realm immediately shifts the whole tone to high fantasy, things are fast and loose with the rules, and detail seems is bizarrely lacking. I like murder mysteries in this series, not this. The fairy realm always pulls me out of the story.
