Interesting, but have to admit not seeing the overarching "newness" of his arguments. Seems pretty straightforward in terms of defining superheroes, but I guess the main interest is that he is applying genre theory, even if that means it gets lost in asides at times. Good so far but not personally seeing the critical raves this one has got.

Great stuff, but huge in scope so lots to take in! Luckily one of those books that is set up for one to be able to read a chapter and get a good amount of information from that selected reading.

Nice mix of research theory overview and technical practice of creating online research surveys. So far seems like a good starter book.

Robert is on page 128 of 288 of Vermeer's Hat: The Seventeenth Century and the Dawn of the Global World
Slogging through this one, another one I thought sounded really interesting, but seems to take all kinds of historical side trips and I want more of the art and Chinese/Dutch connections.

Good stuff, read the chapter on Nanjing as prep for viewing the film City of Life and Death. Complex historical and cultural forces at work with this combining of history, politics, war, war crimes, and pop culture. Heard him talk and he knows his stuff and also raises good questions for humanity that can't be answered in a black or white manner.

Having a some issues getting through the morass of his thinking with this one. Sounded really interesting when I got it, but alas, this reviews sums it up for me: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/07/boo...
