I have decided to come back to this book after DNF’ing it now that Shadow of the Gods has pulled me from my reading slump, and am enjoying this wayyy more than I was initially!

Taking my time on this one too. I just don’t want to see Xaden turned against Violet. Plus, I didn’t like the last book as much as the first and I’m worried it’ll get worse.

Pace is slower than I expected but I’m still enjoying it. I went into this expecting fast-paced Jade powered kung fu. It’s more political with more family conflict than all that.

This is a very cool story, but holy cow the pacing is so slow. There are many scenes I feel like could be shortened or merged with other ones. It feels like the shortest moments drag on forever. Even the fighting drags on. I’m hoping this is more of a set-up book for the rest of the series.
