Very similar, in several ways, to the last book I read, but, so far, I'm enjoying this one more. Perhaps it's because I saw the movie the book is based on, so I can kind of picture it better. Mostly, though, I find the character fascinating.

I didn't read during the move, but I'm back at it now. I finished the main story, and, so far, I'm liking the short stories after the main story better.

They're on their way to a neighbor's reunion. Period. That's about as plotty as it gets in amongst the abundant chat.

Maybe a low star rating coming for this one, but I'm still working out why.......

I wish it would alternate between the 3 sisters' perspectives. I also thought that it would be an epistolary novel, but I'm liking it enough not to be too disappointed by the fact that it's not.

These chapter endings make you want to just keep on reading! I like the differences in this book from the first one, but the progression of the plot seems very similar.

I like the additional narrator. But I don't know if I like that Bartimaeus is the only one in first person.

This is one of those books that keep you reading. It's hard to stop at the end of one chapter, and not just go on reading the next.

The alternating narrators are interesting, though a bit odd. One is in 1st person, the other is 3rd. One starts in the present, the other catches up from the past. I do like how information learned from one of the narrators is beneficial to understanding what's going on in the other narrator's chapters.

I should read more books like this: well written contemporary fiction, with an emphasis on character development, without too much sacrifice of the plot.

It's currently very soap opera-y. Grand enemies, a love triangle, and lots of drama. Her ballet and his painting seem to have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Very good so far. Degas just entered the picture (ha ha) and he's not so nice, so far. But I have a feeling that will change.

It reminds me very much of Ahah's Wife. Other than that, it's quite a dark book. Not a very happy read.

The focus was just on America in the last chapter, which gives you a clearer picture of how WWZ progressed here, but it lost the progression for the other countries, which was perhaps an odd choice for the author to make.

The book seems to be populated with Rambo-like characters, who aren't all that likable, at least by me, but then again, it's told by the survivors of the war. So I suppose that makes sense.

I'm so out of practice reading non-fiction, and I maybe didn't pick the best book to start with. This reminds me of books I read in college. And like with the books I read in college, I keep finding my mind drifting any and everywhere as my eyes diligently scroll down the page.

Slow going. The author gives too many examples. For example, rather than just saying 'the Germans made a plan for war,' he lists about 30 other countries who also made a plan for war, before talking about Germany's plan for war.
