It’s really crazy reading this again, I can really see why my 12 y/o ass really got sucked into this book. I can feel all the ways I processed the story, and the characters and even though to my adult self I feel horrified, as a 12 y/o I think I felt like I was reading about a peer. I understood how Astrid was processing the adults around her, and it was strangely cathartic.

I’m having another amazing experience where I’m re-reading books I read when I was 12, and having the extremely horrifying realization I had no business reading this book that young. I now understand why my mom was NOT happy I was taking from her bookshelf. Idk was this a universal experience or was Jenny’s bookshelf just that nuts.

This book is wild but thank you so much for giving me the line “the common fear of the common queer - the deep dark anxiety that either my gender identity or my pornhub search history might land me in prison” because I’m never forgetting that one
