I’m finally hooked!

A character has just spontaneously combusted. Why Charles, why? At the very least you could have combusted my most hated character.

So much fog, and now 3 wards of court bonded through youth, beauty and hope. We already have a sweet faced, golden haired girl, so that’s Dickens heroine sorted.

This would make an AMAZING film!

Starting to find Oliver a little bit one dimensional now, and having similar feelings about the old lady and her young ward

Has Oliver fallen out of the frying pan and into the fire? I suspect not, because he is now in the home of a ‘sweet faced’ old lady, and a very beautiful and compassionate young woman.

Oliver still can’t catch a break.

The group are divided but Kissen is still being a badass

Love the innocence of Oliver, roaring with laughter at Fagin (brace yourself for him being constantly referred to as ‘the Jew’) training his boys to pick pockets through a jolly game.

Well, what a bitter sweet treat this is. I am currently empathising with the 17 year old Hua and his silent judgements of others as not “cool”… we will both grow up!

So far Oliver has been starved, beaten and bullied. Everyone else is a total villain, either abusive, greedy or just plain mean. Dickens was clearly paid by the word, as he uses too many of them, but it has a surprising amount of dry humour, and his story telling is keeping me entertained.

After a childhood of emotional neglect, Jane has been sent to boarding school. Mallory Towers it isn’t.
