I see how it is. Jacks is all taunting eyes and smirks until Evangeline is mildly injured.

She left a vampire castle at night by herself…
Me: 🤦‍♀️ Do you have a death wish?!

“Careful,” Jacks drawled. “You’re not looking at me as if you hate me right now.”
Me: *Alternating between fits of giggles and drooling in his general direction.*

Butterflies moved inside her. “What are you doing?”
He chuckled. “If I knew all it took to scare you was a little touch, I would have tried this sooner.” Me: Don’t threaten me with a good time.

Gentle hands instead of harsh ones wrapped protectively around her, pulling her toward a cold, hard chest. He smelled of apples and cruelty.
Me: 🫠 of course it’s him.

Him: “Glad to know you’re thinking about me when you kiss your husband.”
Her: “I’m not thinking nice things.”
Him: “Even better.” His eyes sparked.
Me: *flustered* Don’t you go twisting words. *squints*

“If you ever want to get married again, pretending to be a damsel in distress always seems to work for me in the North.”
Me: Yeah, I’m sure it does. 😒

Jacks: I understand if you’re upset…
Me: upset? UPSET?! Why would I be “upset”? *gives him a look of look of pure daggers* That’s an understatement…

“She didn’t kill _______ I did.”
Me: I knew it!!!

“Don’t worry, princess, the only people who are put in those cages are ones who wish to be there.”
Me: 😳 *looks everywhere other than the book*

The drink sparkled but tasted like rotten blackberries and salt.
Me: Dammit, was that poison too?! Oh sure, yeah… sip it some more 🙄

“You’ve kept me waiting…” he dragged a flower petal up and down his oiled chest.
Me: 😳 The man is throwing himself at you… you might be trying to be heroic, but you’re not a saint…

So she’s at a ball to woo a prince, but she’s looking REALLY hard for Jacks…. OMG you’re SO into him.

“But it seemed Jacks had forgotten about her” 😂 oh you’re serious? 🧐 of course he hasn’t forgotten about you!

This book inspired the Studio Ghibli movie that is one of my all time favorites. So the bar is set pretty high, but so far the book has a lot more depth to Sophie’s character as well as more world building overall.

Compelling story, but the real standout here is the bromance. 🤭 If you know you know.

This book was recommended to me by several discord friends, and so far it does not disappoint.

I’m at a loss for words. For some, this point in the book might seem exciting, but for me it’s just sad.

The second half of the book moves a lot faster. When did it turn into a creepy episode of Supernatural?

The illustrations in this book are breathtaking 😭 so immersive and artfully drawn.

So far, the story has been beautiful, endearing, lonely, sad, and threatening. And as of right now, many of my story predictions have been wrong. So admittedly, it’s been surprising too.

Finally, the Hijinks is starting! Don’t mind me as I aggressively jump back to the book…

I’m already finding the world building really interesting. Also, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of an art based magic system, which is such a cool idea.

I’m sitting here bawling my eyes out having just read the letters from her father.

Gus has my whole heart right now. He has dealt with so many terrible things 😢 I always melt for an MMC with a tortured soul.

Loving it so far, especially the banter.

It’s taken me so long to get to this point in the book. I had left it unfinished for 2 months, because I was so worried that the ending of this duology would be disappointing. My friend, who had already read it, convinced me yesterday to finish the book. So here I am reading to the end 😬🤞
