Nevermind- I tried. DNF

Decided to turn reading this into a game. For every unnecessary adjective the author uses, I take a hit of my bong. I got 3 pages in and got distracted folding my dishes.

Meanwhile this book starts by explaining why launching chickens is the method in testing windscreens in jets. Muuucch more up my ally.

It’s so overwritten in unneeded places “I felt my bowels go liquid” wtf and underwritten in the plot (wtf is going on). The protagonist has epic level plot armor and has it super easy but whines incessantly. It’s like watching a train wreck. I don’t usually dig romantic fantasy and maybe this is why?

Nevermind, this is hilariously bad

This has been recommended by friends and algorithms and so far, both have been right, it is kinda up my alley. But why do the high fae curse like humans and say “you’ve got a lot of balls” 🤣

She might be the most accessable and entertaining science writer I’ve read to date. Time zoooomed and I read this fast and have a lot of information about dead people to dump in the middle of small talk. All around awesome.

I am glad this book exists. As a survivor I wasn’t sure if this would end up on my DNF list but I’ve never felt like my own feelings were described so well on a page. Chanel is well spoken, vulnerable, intelligent and strong and I think her words are important and would speak to so many survivors whether they end up in court and in the news or remain unreported.

I don’t love this- not sure if it’s the story or simply too drastic a flip from my nonfiction/memoir streak that I’m not over with yet.
