A classic legal start to the plot- a nervous woman posing as a client to seek legal advice for a ‘friend’ and a hard-headed attorney who doesn’t entertain any nonsense when it comes to the facts of a case. Helen Crocker, aka Rhoda Montaine, a bride with pride, has found herself in a mayhem induced by her ‘presumed’ dead ex-husband who is threatening her current married life. Witty, and v fast-paced!

Ummmm, this one is a bit different from the first two books in the series. The build up is quite slow and the complex legal element of the story is being spoon fed with a repetitive narrative. Erle was still figuring out the characters. Nevertheless, a murder has happened and perry mason’s client is #1 suspect, with the unarguable intent and all evidence against her. I’d like to see how he gets her off.
