Wowwowow! Not usually my favorite topics to read about, but holy shit! Dillard seamlessly weaves 8+(don’t feel like counting) narratives to discuss many different aspects of the generally similar questions in nature(yet these questions also vary greatly, it’s hard to explain without reading). Just give this a go I swear to god you’ll love it(or at least appreciate the he’ll outta it).

4th read. I cant get enough of this book. Starting, this time, I tried to read with a more analytical eye, searching for real-world applicability trying to analyze the book as if it were a multi-faceted, yet singular metaphor; however, it sucked out much of the enjoyment I got from reading this book the first 3x. Searching for meaning in a book like this is unenjoyable, these abstractions must come naturally to me.

I have no idea how this book has 4+ stars. It’s cringy, creepy, and lackluster. Worst read of the year so far. Gotta finish to get my Goodreads numbers up though🤪

Hesse was kinda brain dead while writing this one…wonder if it was right before he croaked.

This book is magical and adorable. The world building is simple, yet elaborate and effective. Has some awesome quirks and good characters thus far.

I mean, it’s grown on me I guess. It’s a very boring book and often so disturbing that I have to put it down and come back. The sex in this book is so incredibly graphic, disgusting, amd abusive. I know it’s satire, but I’m struggling to not view Ellis as a misogynist; how can you come up with the stuff if it’s not somewhat already inside of you

Trying to read this thinking in Spanish as opposed to thinking in terms of English translations. Good exercise, though sometimes difficult cuz I haven’t studied Spanish in 2 years

It’s growing on me, and it’s starting to become more clear why Ellis writes the way he does in this book, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t bother me still. It’s repetitive, although that may be the point. Also, this book is extremely bigoted. Obviously it isnt supposed to be from Ellis’ perspective; however the way he writes reveals a lot about his own beliefs and shortcomings.
