DNF

I'm In going to have to DNF. The writing is poor. You get phrases like "romance Japanese comics." You get sentences like this cluster: "Fighting the full smile and twinkling brown eyes in a face so sweet had been impossible a year ago and was nearly excruciating that very minute."

At last came the day when her need for recognition became so strong it snapped the fetters of her shyness. Matilda and others gather under the Chinquapin tree, which reminds me how the Africans would gather under a certain tree. Kizzy also mentions that George has an itch on his feet to travel, which reminds me of his uncles in Africa.

So far, the stories haven't taken place at a stable! One was in Greenwich Village and the other in a war zone with ambulance drivers.

Now that we're focusing George, I've lost some interest. George was born a slave, as was his mother, Kizzy. They've both become so acclimated to slave life that I don't see that same history, culture, and pride in manhood that made Kunta interesting to read about. George is obsessed with cockfighting, and though it enters his mind, teasing readers with more depth, little thought is put into his master father.
