Damn. The kid and the father pass by a man who had been struck by lightning and they couldn’t help. The father is resigned and the kid feels sorry but doesn’t understand the entire situation.

Flashbacks to the mother who the kid would mention. She presumably committed suicide. Zombies? Or something causing death and she was driven by not caring for the kid and not feeling that the father could help

Really like this book so far. Same desolate and bleak feeling as No Country for Old Men. Kid adds another element, with the father trying to care and explain/shield the kids naïveté and curiosity. Collapse/destruction of America described but not really explained or elaborated on, which is probably intentional
