one thing I really appreciate in Heyer is how she doesn't shy away from showing how precarious women's positions were at that time, how vulnerable they were to predatory men. It's something you don't see in Austen, and you don't see in those wallpaper historicals these days either (except in cartoonish ways, which is the same as not at all imo)

I'm putting this book in my 'feminist' shelf because it is the single MOST EMPOWERING book I've ever read. GdB is an expert on violence and he KNOWS what women go through, he GETS IT. And he helps. AND he gives some great 'fuck yous' to people (men) who doubt and belittle our experiences

I'm not REALLY supposed to be reading for pleasure this month bc I have SO MUCH CRAP to study, but it was driving me crazy. so I picked this up today and now I can't put it down
