But if the books I have read have helped to form me, then probably nobody else who ever lived had read exactly the same books, all the same books and only the same books, as me. So just as my genes and the soul within me make me uniquely me, so I am the unique sum of the books I have read. I am my literary DNA.

A bit late for a new year's resolution since it is practically February, but I'm going to try something new this year: a reading list. I'm going to list the books I absolutely want to read this year (tick off some classics, etc), which can be read out of order, leaving some spots for books to read in the spur of the moment. Tackling the TBR strategically! You guys ever done this? Did it work?

Love is the most difficult thing to write about successfully. It is the litmus test of greatness in a novelist if a love story moves and convinces and never once makes the reader grimace, smirk or feel embarrassed.

1) They WERE paedophiles. 2) "Innocent men" don't take pictures of naked children. 3) You weren't there to know whether they harmed any children or not. 4) Know who else are Christians? the Catholic Church

This is lovely. Such soothing writing.

I don't know why this guy is so amazed that the Scarlet Pimpernel is still in print. It's a great book, and I assure you, people still read it. I did!

This book is great, y'all. I thought it was going to be stuffy but it's like Game of Thrones meets Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Can't get enough of those messy, messy Romans...

As a cat owner, I def sympathise with this chapter of Ned trying to catch Princess Anjuman lol. When I need to catch my cat I have to feign complete disinterest in him, otherwise I'm in for a good hour chasing him round the house, reaching under tables and dragging myself under the bed.

A grown man (under a female pseudonym) wrote a book about upper-class teen girls who open a brothel in the basement of their all-girls school for the boys in the nearby all-boys school. 1) Men are disgusting; 2) Glad this is forgotten!

This book is doing amazing/terrible things for my TBR shelf (depending on how you look at it)

is VC Andrews really forgotten though. I hear people talk about Flowers in the Attic alllllll the time.

A whistling customer with a ponytail and what I can only assume was a hat he'd borrowed from a clown bought a copy of Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist, I suspect deliberately to undermine my faith in humanity and dampen my spirits further.
