I think the writing is nice and I love the idea of the fig as a narrator - but I do not feel connected to any of the characters. Basically I do not care. Is it me? Am I the drama?

I should DNF this one, I should. But what if something will happen?

Look, the first chapter is not over and I am not a fan of long chapters but I am having fun with the story so far.

The dialect is at times hard to read but it's no Wuthering Heights. It's fun, a sense of adventure and childhood.

Some things I like and vibe with, but overall... well let's just say they chose a Marcus Aurelius quote that made Alanis Morissette's Ironic pop into my head instantly and I had a good laugh about it. (It was about how to never agree too quickly with those who have too much to say about a subject.)

More nuance when we talk about money and wealth and how poor people relate to it, please, Mr Holiday.

Why do I have so much empathy for everyone in this book? Who am I? Aren't these people supposed to annoy me? Why do I get them and why is the writing breaking me? Mada, what have you done?

It's slow and quiet and quite ordinary, yet here I am, unable to stop reading it.

Go on, keep breaking my heart. But I love to notice the boy grown now and how similar he is to his father...
