Literally no idea where this is going but I'm here for the ride.

Having the time of my life.

Still at the 1%, it's a big book, guys. But I'm curious about Melchizedek and he barely shows up in the bible. Anyway, it's way more interesting to read it as literature than to get angry at it. Although I do miss female characters (Sarai doesn't really count, she shows up in name only).

I'm eating this up.

The beginning. STUNNING!

Bonjour Tristesse - finished. I am so surprised by the prose and honestly about everything when it comes to this little novel. The inner struggle of our main character but also the playfulness and the teenage feels. AND THE SUMMER!

I loooove this book. How was she only 18? The writing is so fierce and it's so observant!

Reread time!

In the first paragraph Bonjour Tristesse manages to capture the feeling I experience in the summer. Also the first chapter is exquisite and so full of summer. Things are moving unexpectedly fast.

The thing is... damn it is so hard to read this and leave all my opinions on Christianity at the door because I got to the Noah and Canaan part and you cannot tell that wasn't intentionally put there as propaganda. Idk, idk, I'm a judgy bitch, okay? But I won't agree to disagree on human rights.

The thing is... there is too much telling. And one must really go outside to further inquire on the meaning of things, which again if it's not in the original book how do we come with all these theories? Are they theories? On the other hand, Nephilims are present. Briefly. But wow. So far all roads lead me to Paradise Lost :)))

World building, literally. Stories are moving fast left and right. What is most interesting is noticing how this stories influence other pieces of literature. So far that's the most fascinating part of it.

When you realise Lilith is not actually in the Bible because she's just too cool for that. Although 1:27 clearly states male and female being created at the same time, yet it's very general, no names...

We are doing this. Reading the bible as if it was literature - which is why I went with the shakespearian version (more or less).

Times are hard. I need some Oscar Wilde wisdom in my life.

Unfortunately the humour is gone. The spice is nice, but damn, I miss the banter from the first book.

Maybe a bit too much telling in this one? Not enough showing? Or maybe it's just me and my allergy to second-chance romances.

I'm expecting to laugh just as hard as with the first book. Fingers crossed 🤞

Oh the third essay might be my favourite.

Uh, there might be some spoilers, but alas, why does this book make me want to write?

First essay - superb. I was madly highlighting everything.

All I can say is that starting this just after finishing A Portrait feels like the most natural thing ever. Also my book has no notes. I'm in this on my own, thank you very much, Penguin.

I did not expect the first chapter to start with Stephen Dedalus.

So far this is just a summary of each chapter and I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for.
