Petition to stop marketing books "for Sally Rooney fans". It's a disservice to the book and it only proves how good Rooney is at what she does.

Episode 3 was a lot of fun. I think I like it most when he goes delulu in his head and talks about everything and anything under the sun.

Giovanni 3:16 - quite probably my favourite story in this collection, all the feels and the uncertainty, and the different formula of it, which is probably why it works so well.

Complexul Barcelona. Grateful she didn't tell us what everyone was wearing. This story had potential, I just didn't vibe with the writing.

Martori. Maybe I spoke too soon. It's not that these short stories are bad - although sometimes the writing is a bit annoying (do we really need to know what all the characters are wearing?), it's just that they are formulaic and predictable and each story tries too hard to surprise, instead of building something. A feeling, a story, anything.

Is this why I gave it four stars the first time?

It was the middle bit that bore me the first time around, but now I kinda feel it necessary to grasp the dreaded atmosphere of the house, of being trapped and isolated.

I think what gets me the most about this book is how I am naturally disgusted by the male gaze and this strange obsession our collective male narrator has yet at the same time I fall down the rabbit hole and join in somehow and I start to be mesmerised by the Lisbon sisters. It's the writing, guys, it's really good at capturing me...

The mythicalisation (is this a word?) of girlhood. The obsession, the summer. I was scared I might not enjoy it as much this time around but luckily I still do. I love the claustrophobic atmosphere Eugenides creates and I'm so excited to rewatch the film now.

I am intrigued from the first page. I also like the prose and I like all the memories and the similarities between an Estonian village and my grandma's village for example.
