Can I mark a book as read twice if I read the ebook and then I listen to Neil Gaiman reading the same book to me? I am literally reading it twice at the same time!

5* | I mean... it's a reread but I somehow have a feeling I will like it even more the second time.

3*| I did miss Nothomb's clean style - stopped reading her new work when I finished high school, and this is the first book from her that I'm reading translated in English. That being said, maybe 2024 will be the reread of all of her novels in chronological order.

The anxiety from this book... it's like I am spending even more time in my head...

Incredibly late. Things keep getting in the way... mine and theirs.

3*| I am sure there is something here.

Some parts are heartbreaking but more because of the reality of them and what it means, but not because of the writing. And that's ok. If she did not want to do that, if she needs to keep her distance and process things in other ways, then good for her. But overall not the best memoir writing wise...

Okay, it does get a tiny bit better in the second part, but... the writing is very bad.

2*| I feel bad criticizing Britney's memoir, but... It does feel rushed.

I am almost halfway through and so far... I don't want to be mean but it just reads like a distant chronological biography of someone. Fortunately there are some reviews saying that after the 40% mark the substance appears.

3* | Of course I am excited to start this, but I do not expect it to be groundbreaking as a memoir (it doesn't have to be anyway).

Is this a bit too long? Is it just me?

MAYBE SPOILERS! I'm sorry but the entire book war is not really represented in the traumatic way that war is war which makes the book read like a children's novel, the in one chapter things get resolved kinda and then there's just a bunch of trauma porn that quite frankly I did not sign up for...

I am a bit behind - been busy reading things that slowed me down.

2* | halfway through, finally... can't say my opinion has changed much since the initial impression that it's just another war book that will mostly try to impress readers only with the sadness and the hardships our innocent main characters will go through.

The short chapters and time jumps is what keep this book going otherwise it would be even more of a chore to read it... plus there's also the fact that it ends some chapters with cliffhangers but by the time we return to that time I already forgot about it and I stopped caring... And it's so... it reads like a book for children, which would not be bad, but I don't it was the target audience...

To be fair, I was waiting for the third POV for quite some time now...

This book is a bit too long and a bit too messy - it jumps around a lot.

I think what my problem is - it's too similar to TSH. No matter how different it might try to be, it's too similar. And the characters are not fleshed out enough.
